A man has died in a suspected hit-and-run where he was dragged along a road in western Sydney, with police now probing the horrific incident.

Police are searching for the driver of a car after a 44-year-old man was found dead on Courallie Ave at Homebush West.

Officers were called to the scene at about 8pm.

Police are investigating whether the man was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Pictures from the scene showed specialist police swarming the roadway and around parked cars.

It is understood the victim was dragged along the road during the incident.

“Officers from Auburn Police Area Command secured a crime scene that was examined by specialist police,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Police are believed to be looking for a black Mitsubishi seen at the time of the incident, the Saturday Telegraph reported.

Witnesses reportedly saw the victim walk up to the car, possibly to speak with someone known to him.

One resident said he saw a ‘disagreement’ between the victim and the driver.

‘He was leaning into the window. It looked like the man tried to grab the guy in the car,’ the witness said.

‘He held onto the car and the driver accelerated.’

It’s understood the victim then hit his head on the ground, one witness saying there ‘was blood everywhere’.

Any possible witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is being urged to contact Auburn Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
