A woman has died after a Land Rover followed and rammed into an e-bike in a hit-and-run collision, say police.

The 25-year-old pillion passenger was thrown off the bike by a dark coloured 4×4 in Batley Lane, Pleasley, in Derbyshire at about 8pm on Tuesday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene with her family being supported by specialist officers.

The male rider, aged in his 20s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Two people, a man and woman aged in the 30s from the Skegby area of Nottinghamshire, have both been arrested with police launching a murder investigation.

They both remain in custody where they are being quizzed by detectives.

A 4×4, believed to be a Land Rover Discovery, had followed two e-bikes before ramming into one of them and driving off, Derbyshire Constabulary said, in what murder detectives have described as a ‘shocking’ incident.

DCI Claudia Musson, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘This is an understandably shocking incident that has left a family grieving the loss of a young woman.

‘A team of detectives have been working non-stop since the incident took place and have generated significant lines of enquiry.

‘We are, however, wanting to hear from anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to help us bring those responsible to justice.

‘Of particular interest is anyone with information about a dark coloured Land Rover Discovery, it may be that you saw it in the area around the time of the incident – or you have seen a vehicle matching this description that may have sustained damage or been recently repaired.’

The 4×4 was last seen on Rowthorne Lane where it turned right onto the A617 towards New Houghton.

Police say they believe it was manufactured between 2004 and 2009.
