A glamorous Mexican socialite has strenuously denied claims she has had a romantic tryst with Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark after the rumour mill went into overdrive.

Genoveva Casanova told Hola! she ‘categorically’ refutes any suggestion the pair are romantically involved after they were pictured together in Madrid.

The heir to the Danish throne, 55, and the socialite, 47, met in the Spanish capital last weekend to attend an exhibition of the works of Pablo Picasso.

During the evening, the couple were spotted out and about on the streets of Madrid, in photos published in Spanish magazine Lecturas – which coincided with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary welcoming the Spanish royals on a state visit to Denmark.

However, after rumours of a romantic relationship between the pair began to circulate, Genoveva promptly shut them down as ‘malicious’ and untrue.

A statement from the socialite said: ‘I categorically deny the statements that suggest a romantic relationship between Prince Frederick and me.’

She added: ‘Any statement of this type not only completely lacks the truth but also misrepresents the facts in a malicious manner. This is already in the hands of my lawyers, who will take care of the pertinent steps to protect my right to honor, truth and privacy.’

According to Hola!, Crown Prince Frederik’s private trip to Spain was to enjoy art exhibitions, watch flamenco and visit new restaurants.

It is believed that he had planned to attend the Picasso exhibition with a mutual friend he shares with Genoveva – however at the last minute, the friend was unable to go and asked Genoveva to attend in his place.

After visiting the exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, the pair walked through El Retiro Park, before heading to El Corral de la Morería for dinner.

Genoveva Casanova is a Mexican-born socialite living in Spain, who has also dabbled in acting over the years – taking a role in Goya’s Ghosts in 2006.

She has appeared on several reality TV shows in Spain including the nation’s version of the Masked Singer, and she also took part in the most recent series of Spanish Celebrity Masterchef.

Between 2005 and 2007 she was married to Spanish author Cayetano Martínez de Irujo.

The rumours come as the Danish heir to the throne and his wife, Crown Princess Mary, welcome King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain to Denmark on a state visit.

On Tuesday evening, the royal couples were joined by Queen Margrethe II as the quintet attended an art exhibition in Copenhagen, hailing one of Spain’s most famed artists, Joaquin Sorolla.

Sorolla is famed for his portraits, landscapes and monumental works of social and historical themes.

He demonstrated exceptional skill in painting portraits, landscapes and monumental works centred on social and historical subjects.

The Spanish artist’s signature style is marked by a masterful portrayal of both individuals and scenery, often basking in radiant sunlight.

The royals also attended a glitzy state banquet at Christiansborg Palace on Monday evening.
