The Official Charts Company have finally revealed which album has reached number one this month – so will James Blunt have to change his name after all?

The 50-year-old singer promised to change his moniker to ‘Blunty McBluntface’ if the re-release of his 2004 Back To Bedlam album tops the charts on Friday October 18.

But it’s confirmed James can keep his birth name as Charli XCX’s BRAT album claimed the number one spot on the Official Albums Chart.

James’ album Back To Bedlam landed number seven on the charts, securing its first top 10 appearance in 18 years.

The singer released Back To Bedlam two decades ago and the record featured huge hits such as You’re Beautiful, High, Wisemen, and Goodbye My Lover.

The album went on to reach the top spot on the UK albums chart for weeks and is now certified 10x Platinum.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Hampshire star re-released the album and going on tour.

James’ wife broke down in tears in a spoof nightmare had by the pop star amid his vow to legally change his name.

Hours before his fate was revealed, the You’re Beautiful hitmaker had regrets over his big promise as he had a worrying dream over the fallout of a possible name change.

In a video shared to his Instagram on Thursday, James was seen on the phone to his wife, breaking the news that she’ll have to change her name to Mrs McBluntface.

Feigning excitement, he calls wife Sofia with the ‘great news’ that the album has gone to number one, with an unheard Sofia expressing her worries over the name change.

Trying to reassure her, James is heard saying that McBluntface ‘has a great ring to it’, and that the moniker harks back to her ‘Scottish roots’.

However, James’ words are far from reassuring as moments later he’s heard saying: ‘Oh honey, don’t cry’ as she seemingly bursts into tears.

James is then joined on the phone call by the couple’s two sons, to whom James explains: ‘We’re the McBluntfaces now’.

The kids then appeared to share their concerns at how their new name would go down with their peers, with James stating: ‘No you’ll be fine at school they won’t bully you for that!’

Then, referring to the name he’s been previously branded by critics, James jokingly added: ‘Your previous name rhymed with c***!’

James has been married to socialite Sofia Wellesley since 2014 and the couple share two sons, whose names have not been revealed.

The video then ends with James waking up with a start before turning to the camera and confirming the whole thing was simply ‘a bad dream’.

Captioning his humorous post, James penned: ‘This is all turning into a bit of a nightmare. See you tomorrow at 6pm for the final chart reveal via @officialcharts.’

It comes after James revealed on Wednesday that he has no idea how long he will legally have to change his name for, and is instead hoping to secure the number two spot in the chart.

When Good Morning Britain hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid asked how long James would keep the name, he replied: ‘I don’t know the legal limit, it hasn’t been researched very well.’

He warned his fans: ‘The British public would have to live with the shame of buying a James CD. The race is on for number one, I’d be happy for number two.

‘Fingers crossed it won’t make number one. My wife would change back to her maiden name if it does.’

James also expressed his regret at the consequences of his promise, admitting it was a ‘stupid’ thing to do.

He shared: ‘The people I pity more is my family. I feel it was stupid of me, really, to offer to change my name if you got to number one because of the consequences.’

James went on: ‘I feel though that the British public, they would have to live with the shame of… going out and buying and owning a James Blunt CD, (it) might be a deterrent enough.’

The reveal over what the public had chosen after a vote was made in a sketch video posted on his social media last week.

The reveal was made in the sketch video showing him trying to enter a Warner Music Group building, only to be stopped by the front desk as they wouldn’t accept his name as ‘James Blunt’.

He then tries to get in using a few of the top-contending names like ‘Jimmy Spliff,’ ‘Blames Junt,’ ‘Divock Origi,’ ‘James Cucking Funt,’ and ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star Four Chord Song Machiney’ but they don’t work.

Looking deflated his final guess is then ‘Blunty McBluntface,’ and he is finally granted access.

He then mutters ‘People have no imagination,’ to which the front desk receptionist replies, ‘The people have spoken.’

In a video posted on his Instagram, the singer previously announced: ‘My name is James Blunt and you have the power to absolutely f**k my life.

‘I know you’ve heard the rumours, and they are true, I’m rereleasing my debut album Back To Bedlam on October 11. Something that has kept me consistently rich for the past 20 years.

‘So as a way to give back to you, my adoring public, if Back To Bedlam re-enters the charts at number one, I will legally change my name. What will I change it to? Well, it’s entirely up to you.

‘I’ve been called many things in my life, ‘the most hated man in pop,’ ‘annoying,’ ‘James Beige,’ I’ll let the people decide.’

He then added: ‘But if it doesn’t go to number one, I’m not changing my name, it’s safe to say this is the most important democratic moment of the year.’
