Two women and a man have been arrested after a child was discovered dead at a home in Northern Ireland.

Police discovered the child’s body at a property in Dungannon, County Tyrone on Sunday.

The death is currently being treated as suspicious while a post-mortem will determine the cause of death.

A man and two women, all aged in their 20s, were arrested following the discovery.

Councillor Karol McQuade said the local community had been left shocked by the ‘devastating news’.

He said: ‘For a child to lose its life is an absolute tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this death. It is hard to find the words when it comes to a situation like this.’

The incident took place in the Windmill Court area of the town, which is home to around 16,000 people, the BBC reported.

Deborah Erskine, the MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone said the death was a ‘deeply tragic incident’.

‘The death of a child is particularly shocking and my thoughts are with all those who are suffering today as a result’, she said.

‘It is important that the full facts surrounding this case are established and the investigation that is underway can conclude as quickly as possible.

‘I would ask that the community do not speculate and allow the police to conduct their investigation.’

A police spokesperson said: ‘A man and two women, all aged in their 20s, have been arrested following the death of a child at an address in the Windmill Court area of Dungannon on Sunday 13 October.

‘A post mortem will take place to determine the cause of death, however the death is currently being treated as suspicious.’
