Andrew Garfield fans have found new meaning behind his comments regarding his sex scenes with Florence Pugh in their new film, We Live In Time.

Last week, the actor, 41, told how the pair got a little carried away during a ‘very intimate, passionate sex scene’ because they didn’t hear a call of ‘cut’ from the crew. 

His words came just days before his split from professional witch Dr Kate Tomas was revealed, with Kate confirming the end of their romance on Instagram on Saturday. 

And now fans are calling the star a ‘method actor’ as they spot a link between his sizzling scenes with Florence, 28, and his break-up with the spiritual mentor.   

Commenting on an article about the film star’s split, one fan wrote on X: ‘I’m starting to think Andrew Garfield is a method actor. He was an atheist & Martin Scorsese made him act as a priest & became a Christian afterward. Now, he enjoyed hot scenes with Florence that his relationship ended. Very methodic.’

And while it’s not been suggested that Andrew and Florence are anything more than friends and co-stars, others couldn’t help but be in agreement that the pair’s sizzling onscreen chemistry could be linked to the demise of his romance. 

Sharing a grab of Florence and Andrew together, one person penned: ‘HE CAN BE WITH HER NOW.’

‘Obviously The chemistry with Florence pugh was too good.’ 

A different person expressed their excitement that the door could be open for Andrew and Florence, as they put: ‘Its happening. Him and Florence. IS HAPPENNINGGGGGG.’

It comes as British 42-year-old spiritual mentor Kate revealed she and the LA-born Brit – who were last spotted attending Wimbledon in London on July 14 – had split ‘months ago’.

While responding to Instagram user @felipe.reistavares, Kate wrote: ‘We broke up months ago but I’m sure he will be happy to know that he is loved.’

It’s unclear how long Tomas dated the two-time Oscar nominee but they were first pictured on a double date with Phoebe Bridgers and Bo Burnham at Zinqué Malibu back on March 31. 

It comes as Andrew revealed he and Florence went a ‘little bit further than they were meant to’ for their sex scene in We Live In Time.

During an appearance on the 92nd Street Y in New York City ahead of the film’s October 11 release, he told the crowd: ‘The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it. 

While it’s not been suggested that Andrew and Florence are anything more than friends and co-stars, others couldn’t help but be in agreement that the pair’s sizzling onscreen chemistry could be linked to the demise of his romance.

‘And we get into it as it were, and we go a little bit further than we were meant to because we didn’t hear “cut” and it’s feeling safe. And we’re just kinda like, “Ok, we’ll just go into the next thing, we’ll let this progress, and we’ll just carry on.”‘

Andrew added that he and Florence continued performing the intimate sequence for such a long time that it forced the camera operator to turn away.

He explained: ‘At a certain point, both of us, we’re both kind of telepathically saying to each other, “This definitely feels like a longer take.”

‘I look up, and in the corner is Stuart and our boom operator. Stuart has the camera by his side and he’s turned into the wall.’

We Live In Time follows the ‘unconventional’ love story of a recent divorcée and an on-the-rise chef. 

The first trailer sees Almut (Florence) and Tobias (Andrew)  brought together in a surprise meeting that changes their lives forever.

Through snapshots of their life together – including falling for each other, creating a home and building a family – a difficult truth is uncovered that rocks the relationship’s foundation to the core.

As they embark on a 10-year romance that is challenged by time limits, they learn to treasure every moment of their unconventional love story.

The trailer sees Almut and Tobias first cross paths in a hospital room.

Bruised and looking worse-for-wear with a brace around his neck, Tobias asks Almut, ‘So sorry, but do we know each other?’

‘Yeah, no,’ she replies, before admitting that she is the reason he’s injured because she’s accidentally hit him with her car.

The pair eventually fall in love and have a daughter together, leading a blissful life up until the point when Almut receives an ominous diagnosis.

We Live in Time will premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Elsewhere, while some fans are speculating over Andrew and Florence, others noted how the newly single star can feel free to flirt with Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg who interviewed him for her podcast airing this Friday.
