One person is dead and at least nine others have been injured after gunfire erupted near Tennessee State University in Nashville.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at one of the school’s homecoming events.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the bullets were fired near the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th street just after 5 pm.
In a statement posted on X.com just after 6:30 pm, they said that ‘the scene is secure. All victims are at area hospitals.’

Police later identified the deceased as a 24-year-old man. They also noted that three of the victims were juveniles, whose injuries are ‘non-critical.’
‘At least one of the injured is suspected to have been involved in the gunfire.’
The police confirmed to Fox that multiple people had been shot. According to witnesses, more than half a dozen gunshots rang out, before they dropped to the ground for cover.
Some bystanders said that they saw the victims being carried on stretchers.
At 5:30 pm, the university alerted students that there was an active shooter off campus. TSU said that the suspects were two black men and that they might have been driving a Ford Fusion.

Rauf Muhammad, 58, was less than 50 yards from the incident when he heard the gunfire.
‘Everybody having fun, music playing or what not. Then all of a sudden, you just hear like you off in a war somewhere,’ Muhammad told the Tennessean.
After hearing the sudden shots, he dropped to the ground. Muhammad said that the authorities were at the scene within five minutes.
Jashawna Rucker, a young high school graduate, was also on Jefferson Street, where the gunfire broke out.
Rucker said: I was so close to it. I thought it was just fireworks. And everybody was just running. And I started running – I almost fell.’

‘At this point, there are 10 victims that have been confirmed to have been involved in that gunfire, one of which is deceased,’ Reese said.
‘Five of them were transported from the Nashville Fire Department to local hospitals.
‘Five others were dropped off by private vehicles, and at least some of those that were injured at area hospitals are also suspected to have been involved in the gunfire.’
Kendra Loney of the Nashville Fire Department said when the gunfire erupted, there were first responders posted throughout the area because they were participating in the school’s homecoming parade.
Even though the responders didn’t have their equipment with them, they still jumped into action.
Loney said that some heroic officials ‘ripped off their belts’ so that they could use them as tourniquets.
‘We don’t know what the final number will be for victims, but we are grateful at this point that it’s not higher.
‘We are also grateful that first responders, law enforcement, and fire and EMS personnel were on the scene.’
