It is also reported that King Charles sent a letter to Mr Trump, who is currently running for a second term in the White House, following a failed assassination attempt at one of his rallies earlier this year.

Contents of the letter have not been revealed by Buckingham Palace.

The Trumps’ relationship with the monarchy is also referenced in the memoir, where Ms Trump says that she and her husband ‘truly connected’ with Queen Elizabeth II.

Mr Trump has spoken openly of his admiration for the late Queen Elizabeth, and for her sense of duty.

When Queen Elizabeth died he issued a statement saying: ‘Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.’

He said he and his wife would ‘always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humour’.

However, earlier this year a royal biography detailing the life of Queen Elizabeth said she found him ‘very rude’.

He denied these claims and when speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, he said they had spent hours together and had warmed to each other during their meetings.

‘I heard I was her favorite president,’ he said.

The sensational claims are made in the biography, ‘A Voyage Around the Queen,’ that was released in August by Craig Brown.

He writes how the late queen confided in another guest that she had ‘particularly disliked’ the way he looked over her shoulder as if in search of someone more interesting.
