Robert Jenrick will today face a grilling from Tory voters after leadership rivals criticised him over claims the SAS are ‘killing terrorists’ instead of capturing them.
Mr Jenrick, one of the frontrunners to replace Rishi Sunak, made the claim about UK special forces in a video promoting his campaign.
But Mr Cleverly said his rival needed to justify his remarks as he military does not ‘murder people’, while Tom Tugendhat said Mr Jenrick’s claim showed a ‘fundamental misunderstanding’ on the law of armed conflict.
The men will take to the stage in the main hall for the latest ‘In Conversation with’ events featuring the four candidates to replace Rishi Sunak after Kemi Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat faced questions on Monday.
On Wednesday, the four MPs will address the conference for the last time on the final day in Birmingham before the race is whittled down to the final two contenders next week.
