A Western Sydney mum has come forward to claim her $22million Powerball prize – and told her work colleagues shortly after she found out.

The woman in her 30s held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1479, drawn Thursday, and pocketed a whopping $22,207,849.80.

Officials from The Lott reached the hardworking mother just moments after she checked her ticket.

‘I can’t believe it. I saw I had a win, and I thought it was just $11, then I scrolled down and realised I won the whole thing. I’m only in my 30s. This is going to completely change my life.

But in a move that many Aussies might say she’ll regret, the woman confided in her colleagues at work about the win.

‘I just got to work, and I couldn’t help but yell out to everyone I won the $20 million.

‘One of the guys said, you’re on the shout now,’ she said.

‘I don’t know how I’ll be able to focus on the rest of the day. Luckily my day isn’t too busy.’

She also shared her heartwarming plans for the money, and said that it would transform her young family’s life forever.

‘This does so much for me. Buying a house and helping my family is my main priority but I’d love to do some travel too.’

The winning numbers were 32, 12, 4, 9, 10, 24 and 7. The Powerball number was 15.

As part of the prize, she will receive a booklet from The Lott that provides guidance on how to best manage her newfound wealth.

It includes a friendly reminder that while winning the lottery is incredibly exciting, it can also feel overwhelming at first.

The booklet reassures winners not to rush into decisions and highlights the availability of professional support.

‘As a starting point, we suggest speaking to your financial institution about which account might be best to transfer your winnings into,’ it reads. ‘Then, ensure you gain professional advice on the best options for you and your prize.’

The booklet also warns winners not to quit their job straight away.

‘Remember, for many people work means more than just a livelihood. It can also mean friendships, job satisfaction and a sense of belonging.

‘So you might like to leave making any decisions regarding retirement until after you’ve received professional advice and become comfortable with your prize.’

It also offers advice on who to tell.

‘Take a moment to think about who you might share your news with, and when you might tell them.

‘You might be concerned about what impact your prize might have on your relationships with friends and family members, or feel you might suddenly have many new friends.

‘If previous winners’ experiences are anything to go by, true friends and supportive family will be pleased for you.

‘Before you tell them though, you might want to think through what you will say, and if you intend to share any of your prize with them.’

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 320 so far in 2024, including 119 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
