Kate Langbroek has broken her silence on her awkward joke which fell completely flat with the crowds at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards.

The Project star, 59, took to the stage at Sunday’s ceremony alongside her friend Dave Lawson to present an award, but failed to impress during her hosting gig.

She made a joke on stage which failed to land with the celebrity audience and left them scratching their heads, prompting her to now defend her bizarre gag.

Walking out on stage, Kate had said: ‘Hello everybody and Dave Lawson, I didn’t think you’d agree to do this because I didn’t think you’d like strong women.’

However, the joke elicited a mere few laughs from the crowds, while others could be heard mumbling in disapproval as it landed completely flat on the night.

Dave, 45, also appeared confused by the comment as he awkwardly broke the silence by saying: ‘Mate, I’m very happy here Kate… thank you for that.’

Speaking on The Buck Up podcast, Kate has now explained the joke, doubling down as she insisted it was ‘a good joke’ despite its lukewarm reception on the night.

She said the ‘strong women’ remark was a reference to the fact Dave is married to Sarah Snook, who plays the famously headstrong Shiv Roy in hit series Succession.

‘I just assumed that because everyone in the room was showbiz, that people would have knowledge of showbiz and who his wife is,’ she explained.

‘It was a funny joke because he’s actually married to Shiv Roy! It’s a good joke, but in fact a terrible joke because about three people got it.’

Sarah, who rose to fame alongside Dave on Triple R radio, went on to discuss the cringeworthy silence on the night, admitting she could hear the crowd’s confusion.

‘You know what I literally heard, I literally heard from the room ”huh?” and I thought ”oh, they don’t know what I think they know”,’ she said as she defended her joke.

Her podcast co-host Nath Valvo admitted he didn’t get the joke until much later, but insisted he still would have given her a laugh on the night.

The pair laughed off the now-famous incident as Kate appeared to see the funny side of her awkward hosting gaffe.

Elsewhere, Kate is gearing up to put her charming Melbourne cottage under the hammer next month.

Located in St. Kilda, 7kms from the CBD, the vintage five-bedroom, two-bathroom home has been listed for auction with a price guide of $2.5million to $2.7million.

The comedian has lived in the property with her four children and husband Peter Lewis for 16 years.

They are now getting set to move into a larger home only streets away, according to the Herald Sun.

Built in the 1850s, the property is a gorgeous blend of Old World charm and modern chic design.

Since moving in, Kate and her partner have made extensive improvements to the pad including putting in an extension.

Known as Fenagh Cottage, the property still maintains its classic façade and features a sunken ‘family lounge’ with gas log fireplace that opens out to an entertainment terrace.

The spacious and modern kitchen boasts a breakfast bar as well as a set of pendant globe light fittings that offer a taste of 70s retro styling.

Other highlights include a spacious main bedroom with en-suite bedroom and walk-in wardrobe, as well as a sculptured garden and built-in trampoline.
