A man has been rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds and a body has been found in a creek following a late-night shooting.

Police were called to a home on Antwerp Street in Auburn, in Sydney’s west, just before 10pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of a domestic incident.

Officers were told a man known to the occupants had tried to force entry before firing a shot into the home and fleeing before officers arrived.

Nobody inside the home was injured.

Officers were then called to nearby Mona Street following reports a 55-year-old man had been confronted by an unknown assailant.

The gunman had shot at his car, striking him in the neck.

The man was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition while police established a second crime scene on Mona Street.

During a search of the area, a body was located in Duck Creek just after 2.15am.

A firearm was also found and seized for evidence.

‘While the investigation is ongoing, the man’s death isn’t being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘There is no ongoing risk to the public.’

Police believe the shooting on Antwerp Street and the incident on Mona Street are linked and have made a public appeal for information.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
