Detroit police say they have finally solved the case of a neurosurgeon who was brutally murdered in his mansion.

Dr Devon Hoover, 57,  was shot dead inside his $1million home in April, 2023, by Desmond Burks, 34, according to police.

The two men had an intimate relationship and Burks sometimes charged the doctor for sex, per officials.

Police made the arrest on Wednesday, charging Burks with first-degree murder and other crimes related to the killing such as larceny over $20,000.

‘This massive investigation was conducted for over a year in conjunction with local, state and federal law enforcement partners,’ said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, per Fox News.

‘This investigation spanned five states and three countries. Voluminous amounts of documents and evidence were recovered.’

Police say Hoover’s phone shows that he was moving between his home in Detroit’s Boston-Edison neighborhood and Burk’s address in Grandale, which is about 15 minutes away, the day before his murder.

Dr Hoover was found shot twice in the head, naked in a crawlspace in his home after police carried out a welfare check when he failed to show up for a family party in Indiana.

Officials had received a complaint about a white Range Rover that was blocking a drive way in the Grandale neighborhood the day before they found his body.

The vehicle had blood inside, according to police, and was registered to Hoover. Officers then traveled to his home and noticed the front and rear doors were wide open but no one appeared to be home.

The next day Hoover’s family made a 911 call to request a wellness check on the doctor after he failed to shop up for a planned visit with his mother in Indiana.

After finding evidence of blood at the mansion, police forced their way into his home and found his body.

Police noticed several things were missing from the home, including Hoover’s  cellphone, wallet, money, credit cards and designer watches.

Moreover, fraudulent transactions were made from his financial accounts after his death.

Police say they found Burk’s fingerprint in the Range Rover, and that they located Hoover’s watches in his home.

Dr Hoover was well liked in his community, and was previously named in Hour Detroit Magazine as one of the leading neurological surgeons in Detroit in 2008.

In a statement following his murder, Ascension Michigan Hospital said Dr Hoover ‘was a dedicated and well-respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by our community.

‘Our sincerest condolence and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends and fellow associated during this incredibly difficult time’.
