Alert – Eve Hewson shrugs off nepo baby criticism as she teases her starring roles opposite George Clooney and Nicole Kidman after ditching her ambition to follow dad Bono into music

Eve Hewson has shrugged off nepo baby criticism as she speaks out on her soaring career.

The actress, 33, is the daughter of U2 frontman Bono and businesswoman and activist Ali Hewson, and has landed a string of high profile roles alongside major names like Nicole Kidman.

And Eve is sanguine about her famous father and any nepo baby talk, telling Porter Magazine: ‘The only thing you can do is crack a joke and move on.’ 

Eve, who has previously admitted she was a ‘little troublemaker’ during her youth, grew up with her three siblings in Dublin in a creative household ‘filled with conversations about film and music and poetry and literature’.

She admitted that acting felt inevitable, insisting ‘it was the only thing I was any good at’ but she did originally want to follow her dad into music, laughing: ‘I thought I was going to be Charli XCX.’

Eve, who now lives in LA, is close to her parents and siblings, with the family reunited in Dublin during the pandemic, marking the first time in years that they had all lived together.  

‘We have a studio at the end of [my parents’] garden, where [we] usually end up, in the middle of the night, writing stupid songs.

‘I actually got kicked out of the family band, for being too enthusiastic,’ she recalled. 

But the One hitmaker didn’t join in with the sessions. Asked if he was part of the band, Eve said: ‘No! He was asleep by 10pm every night.’

Eve plays Amelia, a free-spirited bride-to-be, marrying into the wealthy and uptight family.

Next up for Eve is Netflix series The Perfect Couple, alongside Sam Nivola, Nicole Kidman, Billy Howle, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning and Jack Reynor

The six-episode show, debuting on September 5, features an ensemble cast including Dakota Fanning, White Lotus’ Meghann Fahy, Ishaan Khatter, Billy Howle, and Jack Reynor. 

Eve is also starring in season 2 of hit Apple TV+ show Bad Sisters and is set to start filming Noah Baumbach’s as-yet-untitled Netflix movie with the likes of George Clooney, Greta Gerwig and Adam Sandler in the coming weeks.
