A Green Party election candidate likened Tories and other leading public figures to Nazi war criminals who should face a ‘climate Nuremburg’ for not taking strong enough environmental action.

Joe Taylor, who is standing in Battersea in south west London, made the analogy in an X tirade against Labour’s Emily Thornberry in March.

He said Just Stop Oil were showing her ‘how to cancel your spot at the climate Nuremberg’, before adding that the Tories are ‘beyond help’ and have ‘already cast their die and booked their places at the climate Nuremberg’.

And he reportedly made similar remarks in an in-person hustings at the weekend.

The Nuremberg trials took place after the end of the Second World War, with senior Nazis held accountable for the horrors they inflicted on Europe. Ten senior members of Adolf Hitler’s regime were hanged and others were jailed.

When asked to comment on the most recent allegations by the Spectator magazine, Mr Taylor published their inquiry with a long thread of comments on X.

He did not deny making the remarks at the hustings, but suggested he was aiming his remarks at ‘fossil fuel executives’ and politicians like Nigel Farage.

‘There are several groups who are using international criminal law to seek the prosecution of those who cause mass death, mass suffering and annihilation of low-lying states through climate destruction, he added: ‘It must surely be only a matter of time before some of them are successful.’

He went on to say: ‘Once the fossil fuel industry is over, perhaps there could be something like the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which seemed to lead to very deep experiences and inner transformations. I believe in nonviolence, not in vengeance, so I would support this.

‘But if the fossil fuel industry continues, and if media outlets continue to lie, then the young and those on the frontline of climate breakdown will surely demand justice….

‘As we accelerate towards climate breakdown, with each new flood or fire or famine, the momentum towards these prosecutions will only get stronger.’

has approached Mr Taylor and the Green Party to comment further. It is the latest incident in which party candidates have aired controversial views.

The leftwing party, which has been dogged by anti-Semitism scandals during the campaign, seeks to build on the single seat it has held in the Commons since 2010.

As well as Brighton Pavilion, held by Caroline Lucas since 2010, it is also being tipped to potentially win seats in Bristol and Cambridgeshire.

Last month revealed how a Green Party election candidate is mired in an anti-Semitism row today over social media posts claiming the Islamic State terrorist group was run by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

Joe Belcher, who is standing in the Aldridge-Brownhills seat in the West Midlands, also denied a controversial mural showing ‘hooked-nosed Jewish bankers’ playing monopoly off the backs of the poor was ‘anti-Semitic’.

Mr Belcher, the treasurer of the local party branch in Walsall, shared a link to an article by ‘the real Syrian Free Press’ – a pro-Assad website – suggesting ISIS was run by ‘Simon Elliott, a Mossad agent’.

He also posted other links to pages about ‘Rothschild bankers’ and shared a link to a video by controversialist David Icke, suggesting Jeremy Corbyn might be a ‘savior [who is] going to turn the country around to a more fair and just society’ before he became leader of the Labour Party.

Regarding Mr Belcher the Green Party told that ‘allegations of anti-Semitism will always be carefully considered using our robust internal disciplinary procedures’.
