alert-–-champions-league-final-fans-will-make-london-extra-busy-today-as-transport-chiefs-reveal-which-tube-stations-and-roads-may-be-closed-ahead-of-the-big-gameAlert – Champions League final fans will make London extra busy today as transport chiefs reveal which Tube stations and roads may be closed ahead of the big game

Travelers have been warned to avoid stations near Wembley Stadium this afternoon due to this evening’s Champions’ League final taking place in the arena.

More than 86,000 people – including thousands of fans from the two competing teams – are expected to attend Europe’s biggest club football match of the  year.

German side Borussia Dortmund will face 14-time champions Real Madrid at the iconic stadium this evening.

Transport for London officials have warned that several points on the network are expected to be crowded ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick off.

Stations such as Baker Street, Canary Wharft, Charing Cross, Embankment, Marble Arch, Waterloo, Westminster , Wembley Park and Wembley Central are expected to be busier than normal.

TfL has warned that trains may skip stations and there could be temporary closures in an effort to mitigate congestion.

Some stations could also change entry and exit routes temporarily if they are dealing with too many fans.

Londoners have also been advised that a football festival has been taking place at several sites across central London which are expected to attract thousands of fans.

Venues of the football festival include Trafalgar Square, Regent Street, Somerset House, the South Bank and Potters Field Park.

As a result there will be some local diversion and disruption.

In addition to the football traffic, engineering works mean there are no direct trains from central London to Luton Airport, while the Elizabeth Line is closed between Paddington and Abbey Wood.

Further disruption is expected between Whitechapel and Stratford on Saturday.

Anyone using TfL services over the weekend are recommended to check the service’s website to check on services and possible delays.
