I wanted to help out a mate – but it’s ruined my life: Housemate breaks his silence after accused rapist’s three days of wild partying

Bruce Lehrmann’s new housemate says he let the former Liberal staffer stay to help a mate, but now ‘it’s basically ruined my life’ – as the wild partying rages on for a third day.

Mr Lehrmann was forced to move out of his $2,000-a-week property in Sydney’s northern beaches last week, when his deal with Channel Seven for exclusive interviews in exchange for a years’ worth of accommodation came to an end.

With nowhere to go and more court appearances on the horizon, his mate Paul had a spare room in North Sydney and decided to help out – apparently not realising media photographers would be focused on capturing Mr Lehrmann’s nightly parties.

Groups of women have been spotted arriving at the home every day for the past three days.

Outside the home on Thursday, Paul told Daily Mail he was having second thoughts about the situation.

‘I’m renting this place and had a spare room so thought I was helping out a mate,’ he said.

‘But it’s basically ruined my life with all the photographers and journalists hanging around.’

When asked whether a sweet odour seeping from the home came from vapes, he said: ‘Yeah, probably.’

Paul later emerged from the home and met with a young woman with a face tattoo and fresh vapes in tow.

Earlier, a male friend had arrived with a box of alcohol, there were two trips to the bottle shop, and the group accepted a delivery from Taco Bell.

Neighbours were frustrated with the noise by Thursday, claiming Mr Lehrmann’s companions had been ‘shrieking’ the lyrics to Tina Turner songs, swearing at all hours, and talking outside into the early hours of the morning.

‘It’s not loud music, it’s mostly carry-on with the girls shrieking and screaming along to Tina Turner,’ one neighbour said.

‘They’re constantly swearing, it’s ‘f-this’ and ‘f-that’.’

Another neighbour accused guests of parking on the footpath and across driveways, which they said ‘is selfish for parents pushing prams’.

‘It’s quite intrusive because they already have a double car garage to park in,’ they said.

Mr Lehrmann’s party week started on Tuesday evening when he was spotted in a burgundy blazer, flanked by two glammed-up women, outside the home – just moments after a new judgement date in his blockbuster defamation case was set.

The trio charged through the rain and jumped into the back of an Uber, with one holding a can of alcohol.

The revelry continued on Wednesday when when another group of women entered the same property – among them, a blonde who previously appeared barefoot with a vape on the balcony of his old place in Balgowlah.

On Wednesday, she wore a black dress with a thigh-high split and black stiletto heels, while juggling car keys, a phone, a bottle of Hendrick’s gin and half-drunk bottle of whisky.

And on Thursday, shortly after midday, yet another crowd shuffled into the home carrying boxes of alcohol.

Daily Mail understands most of the visitors on Thursday were Paul’s friends and that despite the festivities, the property has never received a noise complaint.

Mr Lehrmann has been contacted for comment.

In just four days’ time, Federal Court Justice Michael Lee will hand down his judgement in Mr Lehrmann’s defamation case against Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson.

He launched defamation proceedings over an episode of The Project in February 2021, during which Brittany Higgins went public with her rape allegations for the first time in an interview with Wilkinson.

Ms Higgins alleged Mr Lehrmann raped her in Parliament House in March 2019, when they were both staffers working for the Liberal Party.

He was not named in the broadcast but claimed friends and colleagues were able to identify him as the alleged rapist. He has always maintained his innocence.

The month-long trial was heard in December. Judgement is set for 10.15am on Monday.
