The head of a £24,000-a-year London private prep school has put parents on high alert saying two men had tried to kidnap children in a van nearby.

Sarah Segrave, principal of the prestigious prep school Eaton House, sent a warning to parents stating: ‘It has come to our attention that there was an attempted abduction of children last night by two men driving a dark grey van.’

Ms Segrave warned parents to stay vigilant and consider the risk of allowing pupils to make their own way home from school and clubs now that the nights are getting darker. 

Parents were informed the alleged incident happened on Tuesday night at around 7:30pm 

She also told parents to ‘be vigilant and report any concerning situations to the police immediately’.

The alleged incident took place close to the junction of Nansen Road and Forthbridge Road at around 7:30pm on Tuesday. 

The worried parents stump up £24,000 a year for their children to attend the school, following in the footsteps of former prime minister Harold Macmillan, author Philip Pullman and actor Eddie Redmayne, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Warnings have been shared by parents in Clapham on Facebook and WhatsApp groups, where one local wrote: ‘My friend is worried that she will have to make arrangements to collect her children from school. 

‘Everyone is worried now.’

The Telegraph said the Metropolitan Police had no record of the incident being reported. has contacted the Met for comment.
