The Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children to death with exercise bands while suffering from post-partum psychosis allegedly researched methods of killing.

Lindsay Clancy, 32, was indicted by a Plymouth Grand Jury in mid-September on three counts of murder and strangulation.

Clancy allegedly attacked and killed her three children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan on January 24 at the family home in Duxbury.

The mother, a labor and delivery nurse, then attempted to take her own life and remains in hospital as a result.

The unsealed affidavit – obtained by AlertContent.com – reveals that investigators obtained a warrant for her electronic devices, where Clancy would journal about her mental health and feelings about children, but also ‘researching ways to kill.’

No specific search terms or phrases were revealed, nor did the documents show any further details about how they found the information.

The affidavits also show that Clancy had resorted to self-harm with ‘a large blood covered kitchen knife’ before she jumped from a window of her home.

Clancy was suffering severe postpartum depression and had been prescribed an ‘over the top’ cocktail of pills that her forgiving husband Patrick Clancy believes are to blame for the tragedy.

The investigators took bottles of diazepam, amitriptyline and trazodone, all antidepressants, from Clancy’s home on January 25. All three had been prescribed to her within the last 16 days.

It’s also revealed that Clancy’s husband, Patrick, was in the basement when police had arrived to check on Lindsay and knew ‘something was wrong because his children would not wake up.’

He approached the police and started screaming: ‘She killed the kids!’ as he made the discoveries, finding two of his children with band around their necks, turning their faces ‘blue and purple.’

Authorities did a full search on the home and went through home cameras, receipts, a CVS bag containing a child’s laxative Lindsay had asked Patrick to buy, the murder weapons, the knife and several notebooks.

The books included a more full list of medications Lindsay was being prescribed: Zoloft, Valium, Trazodone, Ativan, Klonopin, Prozac and Seroquel. It did not appear she had been given all of these at the same time.

Clancy is scheduled to be arraigned in county court on Thursday, according to the Boston Herald.

Post partum psychosis is defined by the National Institutes of Health as the severest form of mental illness in that category, and is characterized by extreme confusion, loss of touch with reality, paranoia, delusions, disorganized thought process, and hallucinations.’

It usually occurs within the first six weeks after giving birth and ‘warrants immediate medical and psychiatric attention and hospitalization if the risk of suicide or filicide exists.’

Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin J Reddington, previously told a judge that the drugs she had been prescribed left her feeling feeling like a ‘zombie’.

A chilling audio of the 911 dispatch call made by Patrick that night reveals the extent of the horror.

Clancy suffered cuts on her wrists and lacerations, which she is believed to have inflicted on herself before jumping from a window of her home.

The tragedy occurred  on January 24 at the family home at 47 Summer Street in Duxbury

Patrick found his wife lying outside their home after returning from collecting takeout food for the family.

As first responders arrived on scene and tended to his wife, Patrick could be heard screaming in the home’s basement.

There he found the children unconscious and blue with exercise bands around their necks.

The state’s chief medical examiner would declare the two older children had died of asphyxia, while little Callan had died from complications from asphyxia.

Clancy was arraigned on February 7 from her Brigham and Women’s Hospital bed.

‘One of the major issues here is the horrific overmedication of drugs that caused homicidal ideation, suicidal ideation’ Reddington said in February.

‘They [Lindsay and her husband Patrick] went to doctors repeatedly saying ‘please help us.’

‘This was turning her into a zombie…the medications that were prescribed were over the top, absolutely over the top.

‘The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients’ Patrick said of his wife

‘She had medical care and treatment on a regular basis. And her husband was very proactive in trying to protect her and help her with the doctors’ medication she was prescribed.

‘They went through hell — and they didn’t come back,’ he said.

He intends to use this as his defense against murder charges. Patrick, her husband, says he has forgiven her.

In a GoFundMe message to friends and strangers who have raised $1million for him, he said: ‘I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have.

‘The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients.

‘The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.’
