alert-–-zoom-is-down-as-thousands-of-users-report-issuesAlert – Zoom is down as thousands of users report issues

Zoom suffered a major outage Wednesday, as thousands of users reported being locked out of the video-conferencing platform.

Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform, showed there were nearly 67,280 incidents of people reporting issues with Zoom at 3 p.m. ET.

Users reported interruptions accessing the Zoom web portal, as well as the application. Some users also reported login issues.

Zoom confirmed the outage and said they are working to restore users access to the platform.

‘We are experiencing an outage that is impacting some users, but a restore is underway,’ the company said.

Zoom has not said it is a result of hack, but hacker group Dark Storm Team took credit for the outage, reported KRON.

In a post on Telegram, the group said it had launched a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack against the platform.

A DDOS attack is essentially a traffic jam on the internet, caused on purpose to shut websites down.

In these attacks the hacker sends thousands or even millions of fake visitors (bots) to flood the site.

The group also took credit for the cyberattack on Elon Musk’s X in March.

Dark Storm Team, is a Pro-Palestinian hacker group, known for targeting those who support Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

In the X attack, many users were left unable to log in to their accounts, while others reported the site would not load to show posts.

Those already logged in on the app and website have been presented with the message: ‘Something went wrong, try reloading.’
