Partygoers brushed off their Christmas day hangovers and donned their best fancy dress costumes to head out and celebrate Boxing Day with a night out.
Wigan town centre was overflowing with revellers wearing their best gear to the nightclubs and bars along King Street in mild temperatures for this time of year.
Punters celebrated the Lancashire town’s 44th annual Boxing Day fancy dress party, with people seen disguised as penguins and cowgirls for the boozy celebrations.
Alongside some classic outfits and festive attires, there were also a number of questionable ones on display.
One person controversially decided to go in a Jimmy Savile costume – including a blonde wig, cigar and sparkly tracksuit – while another person went dressed as Hugh Hefner.
But there was also the usual array of superheroes and cartoon characters seen up and down the main roads of the town centre for the big night out.
The colourful and inventive costumes testify to Wiganers’ creativity and are always an impressive sight to behold.
Some of the highlights from this year also included people dressed in full Penguin suits, one man dressed as a bottle of ketchup and a group of drinkers pretending to be I’m A Celebrity contestants.
People stumbled home and had a rest against buildings and on pavements as the effects of the dancing and drinking started to have an effect.
Several grabbed a takeaway to soak up the booze as they awaited taxis.
Others continued to party on and headed down to the town’s nightclub strip.
