alert-–-you-star-penn-badgley-spotted-on-the-streets-of-manhattan-as-production-starts-on-the-fifth-and-final-season-of-the-hit-netflix-seriesAlert – You star Penn Badgley spotted on the streets of Manhattan as production starts on the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series

Almost exactly one year after Netflix renewed You for a fifth and final season, production has gotten under way.

Series star Penn Badgley was spotted filming near the Bleecker Street subway station in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

Netflix and the You show’s social media accounts shared one of the snaps, confirming filming has gotten under way for the season.

This season brings the story back to New York City, where the series began with Badgley’s character Joe Goldberg as a seemingly normal bookstore manager.

Fans would ultimately learn that Goldberg is actually a serial killer who develops extreme obsessions with women.

Badgley as spotted in two different outfits – a maroon dress shirt under a black coat with black pants and black shoes – and a bright red Rab puffer coat and khakis plus a wedding ring on his left ring finger.

The series debuted in 2018 on Lifetime, following Joe in New York City as he falls for NYU grad student and writer Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail).

The second season moved to Netflix, where it has stayed ever since, and found Joe now living in Los Angeles as a bookstore employee, now going under the name Will Bettelheim, who falls for heiress and health guru Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).

The third season found Joe/Will putting down some roots, marrying Love and having a child together… though he still finds himself obsessed with two new women.

The fourth season finds Joe/Will moving to London, now under the alias Jonathan Moore, an English professor who finds himself entangled with high society.

The start of production follows a number of recent casting announcements from earlier this month.

Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale) has signed on to play Bronte, described as, ‘an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright who comes to work for Joe at his bookstore.’

They both connect, ‘over literature and loss,’ which, ‘stokes in him a nostalgia for his former self, causing him to question everything his life has become.’

Anna Camp has also signed on for the dual roles of Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, Joe’s new, ‘twin sisters-in-law.’

The last new confirmed cast member is Griffin Matthews as Teddy Lockwood, ‘the snarky, yet loyal brother-in-law.’

It’s unclear if Joe’s new bride is his flame from Season 4, Kate (Charlotte Richie), who helped Joe find a way to restore his identity and head back to the Big Apple.

The final season also sees a shake-up behind-the-scenes, with showrunner Sera Gamble – who was on board for the first four seasons – leaving the show.
