X-Factor star Jaymi Hensley has been cleared by police after he was reportedly arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of his fiance who fell to his death from a hotel window.
Oliver Marmon, 33, died in the early hours of yesterday morning after plummeting 30ft from the third floor of three-star Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northampton, at 11.30pm on Sunday.
Paramedics and police officers battled to save the hairstylist’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later.
Detectives had launched a murder investigation and the heartbroken 34-year-old Jaymi was arrested in connection with his partner’s death, The Sun reported.
But he has since been released without charge and the case into the tragedy has been closed after a forensic post-mortem examination carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary ‘did not support’ Oliver’s death as homicide, police said.
East Midland’s Special Operations Unit’s major crime team has now been stood down and a file is being prepared for the coroner’s office.
Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell described the case as ‘complex and fast-moving’ as he said it was ‘only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness’.
Preliminary results revealed the cause of death to be injuries sustained from a fall from height, Northamptonshire Police said in a statement released tonight.
DCI Campbell said: ‘This has been a complex and fast-moving investigation, and our thoughts remain with Olly’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
‘It is only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness, to make sure we have done all we can to understand what has happened, and to get the answers those left behind need and want.
‘In Olly’s case I can confirm the evidence we have examined did not support his death as a homicide, which has now been further confirmed by the results of the preliminary forensic post-mortem report.
‘Our initial findings and decision have been explained to Olly’s family who will continued to be supported by Northamptonshire Police as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
Fans have since flooded Jaymi’s Instagram account with condolences following the tragic news as one said: ‘Just know Olly will be shining down on you every single day and reminding you that he will always be with you no matter where you are.’
Another who had ‘the pleasure’ of meeting Olly said their heart was ‘broken’ for Jaymi.
‘He [Olly] was the nicest guy you could ever meet,’ they wrote. ‘I’m deeply sorry for your loss.’
Oliver’s bereft family posted heartbreaking tributes calling him a ‘spiritual, gentle soul’ who was ‘beautiful both inside and out’.
Hairstylist Oliver and Jaymi had been in a relationship since 2009 with the loved-up couple announcing their engagement in 2014.
They met when they were both aged 18. They recently shared smiling selfies of themselves on Instagram on trips to the Norwegian fjords and France.
The couple were due to wed on September 24 with Jaymi last year using a quote from the late Queen Elizabeth II to describe Oliver as his ‘strength and stay’ during their 14-year relationship.
Oliver’s family were left heartbroken after he passed away on Monday, with his parents paying tribute to the ‘caring and loving’ hairdresser.
Oliver’s mother Julie and stepfather Steve Peacock said: ‘Words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak I feel over the loss of my beautiful youngest son Oliver, Olly to his friends.
‘I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.
‘The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend. We spoke every single day. He called me mummy, he used to call me his guardian angel.
‘Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself. He was a very talented hairdresser, and it was a passion he took seriously.
‘More recently he had been working with his stepdad Steve gardening and loved it so much. He was spiritual and loved the outdoors.
‘He touched many lives and everyone he met fell in love with him. Steve referred to Oliver as his son.
‘I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him.
‘Such a devastating loss to all our family including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex, as well as his Auntie Loraine, Uncle Simon and cousin Sophie.’
Olly’s dad Leigh and stepmum Vanessa Marmon added: ‘My darling Oliver, I cannot believe that I am writing this. I would give my life to have saved yours.
‘I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on.
‘I know that you knew how much you were loved. I was so proud of you and everything you achieved. You have been to places that I can only dream of.
‘Whatever you put your mind to, you achieved. When you were younger you were a talented sportsperson, musician and of course, hairdresser – your dream job. You won medals and awards in gymnastics and hairdressing.
‘Your life was too short, but you squeezed so much into it. You were so kind-hearted, a gentle soul who was just so beautiful inside and out.’
Olly’s older brother Ben said: ‘Oliver Marmon you are my little ray of sunshine. You are my best friend. You radiate joy and excitement to all around you.
‘You are full of creativity and spontaneous ideas for fun. You are the light of happiness in every room. You are so kind and caring and happy to walk in anyone’s shadow as long as everyone else is smiling.
‘You are the bravest soul and no matter how much you felt different you were always so loved by everyone. Never underestimate the difference you made and the lives you touched.
‘I didn’t tell you enough, but I was immensely proud of you. Always my best friend and my little Bruva bear.’
In September last year Jaymi shared a happy photo of him kissing Oliver on the cheek as they stood on a beach.
He wrote: ’14 years together and 1 year until ‘I do’ ! Happy anniversary! I think of many beautiful quotes when I think of our relationship so far, but one that really Sums it all up for me is from Her Late Majesty QE2, ‘He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years’!
‘I love you irrevocably and so excited that In 365 days we will finally be Mr&Mr!’
Jaymi rose to prominence on The X Factor where he auditioned as part of the trio Triple J – consisting of himself, Josh Cuthbert and JJ Hamblett.
They were formed in 2011, but when they took part in the show the following year George Shelley joined the group at the request of the judges, before being renamed Union J.
Union J came fourth in the competition which was won by James Arthur and later signed a recording contract with Sony.
They were initially signed to RCA Records and released their first single in June 2013.
The achieved moderate success with hits including Carry You, Beautiful Life and Loving You Is Easy, with their last single in 2014 reaching number 2 in the charts.
With George and Josh leaving the group, the band officially called it a day in 2019 although there have been attempts to organise reunion shows in recent years.
However, in 2022 Jaymi announced that he would not take part in them in a shock social media announcement in which he claimed he couldn’t ‘sit and watch the legacy that I have tried to sustain for a decade decay any further’.
He wrote: ‘To all the Union J fans, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to say I am no longer continuing on my journey as a member of Union J.
‘Since day one, our family of fans has brought me love, light and support and has been the main reason for me being such a driving force within the band.
‘Last year was the best year of my life being back out on stage with the boys and being in front of you all again.’
Jaymi continued: ‘I hoped and dreamed of all possibilities afterwards, but this has not happened for several reasons, and therefore, out of love & respect to the family of fans and my integrity as an artist, I cannot sit and watch the legacy that I have tried to sustain for a decade decay any further.
‘I will continue to carry artistry, integrity and creativity as my driving force, but now is the time to focus the energy I have consistently put into Union J into myself and create art and music for us all to enjoy together.’
