A young woman has claimed she was ‘discriminated’ against in her local Woolworths after a security guard ‘assumed’ she was stealing.

The woman had been shopping at Broken Hill Woolworths over the weekend when she was approached by security.

In video of the confrontation posted to social media, the woman stands at the self check-out while a Woolworths employee scans her items.

‘They’ve got no proof I’ve stolen,’ text on the video reads.

‘I’m trying to pay for food,’ she tells the security guard.

‘Your thieves and you’re banned from the complex,’ he replies.

The woman tells security that police had previously walked her through the store and hadn’t found any proof she had stolen.

‘Yeah they do,’ the man retorts.

‘Well why haven’t I been charged,’ she hits back.

In the caption of the video the woman claimed she was discriminated against.

‘Like bro, I’ve had to call the police to help me shop for my own safety,’ she wrote.

‘You can’t just assume someone is a criminal, I work for my money just like you.’

However, viewers were divided over who was really in the wrong.

Several asked for evidence of the incident before the confrontation.

‘Show the full footage, not half of it,’ one person commented said.

‘Guys I work at Coles and trust me there are defs two sides! You can tell this chick is guilty cause she can’t stop talking and swearing!’ one woman wrote.

‘The police have walked me through here before. Definitely sounds innocent,’ a second joked.

A third wrote: ‘What’s happening, there’s always two sides of the story, this 15 seconds video is not explaining anything.’

However, others were more empathetic towards the woman.

‘I’ve been followed around then accused of putting s*** down my pants, only if they knew I had an income and have a kid on the way,’ one said.

It’s understood the woman in the footage had previously been issued a banning notice from the Broken Hill store and that she was asked to leave after a security guard, who was aware of the banning notice, intervened.
