A woman has died after being hit by a car which was trying to evade police.
The crash, which occurred shortly after 3pm outside a school in Edgware, northwest London, was witnessed by parents and children.
An unnamed woman was treated at the scene by police officers and paramedics but could not be saved despite their best efforts.
The vehicle which collided with the casualty had ‘driven away from police’ prior to the fatal collision, said the Metropolitan Police.
Police found the car, which fled the scene of the crash, abandoned a short time later but are still working to locate the driver.
There is yet to be an arrest made.
A statement issued by the Metropolitan Police this afternoon read: ‘Shortly before 15:10hrs on Tuesday, 25 March a car was in collision with a female pedestrian in Grahame Park Way, NW9.
‘The car had driven away from a police vehicle prior to the collision taking place.
‘Officers provided treatment to the woman prior to the arrival of London Ambulance Service. However, despite the efforts of the emergency services the woman died at the scene.
‘The car did not stop but was found abandoned a short time later. Work is ongoing to locate the occupants of the car.
‘There has been no arrests and enquiries continue.
‘Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD4440/25Mar.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 3.08pm today [25 March] to reports of a road traffic collision on Grahame Park Way, NW9.
‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team manager and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
‘Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.’
