A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in a crowded train.
The woman, in her 30s, was stabbed in the chest while travelling on a train heading to Armidale from Sydney at 1.30pm on Saturday.
NSW Police responded to reports of a woman being stabbed between Singleton and Muswellbrook.
The train stopped at Ravensworth and emergency services met the woman and her alleged attacker, a 35-year-old man, at the location.
Police used a taser and pepper spray to sedate the man before arresting him.
The woman was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
Her alleged attacker is also in hospital currently under police guard.
None of the 167 other passengers on board the service were injured during the incident.
NSW Police said the man was arrested by paramedics and that he had known the victim.
‘He was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard,’ a statement read.
‘The man and woman are believed to be known to each other.’
A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing.
