A woke Chicago lawmaker has been mocked for wearing an ‘eat the rich’ t-shirt despite her earning a $130,000 salary.

A picture of Northwest Side Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez was posted on X (formally known as Twitter) as she donned a black ‘eat the rich’ shirt at a recent event.

Sanchez was soon ridiculed for her choice of clothing, as she makes $70,000 more than the average salary of Chicagoans.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and 48 alderpeople are set to receive raises in 2024, even as the city faces a $500million-plus budget shortfall.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Sanchez is the first Latinx Alderwoman to represent the 33rd ward of Chicago

Sanchez, of the 33rd ward, was one of only two city officials that declined to take a pay raise.

The two officials went on to send signed statements to the city’s Office of Budget Management to turn down the pay increase.

Before she was in office, Sanchez worked as a youth educator and dabbled in community groups as an organizer and activist.

She is also a mother and resident of the Albany Park neighborhood in Chicago.

According to the alderwoman’s website, some of her priorities for her community include ‘protecting neighborhood affordability, supporting our ward’s immigrant population, young people, and diverse communities, and creating more democratic processes so that ward residents are involved in the decisions that impact their lives.’

In recent times, the lawmaker took it upon herself to visit a new shelter that opened in her ward and addressed the issue of overworked employees.

The Chicago Tribune reported that as Sanchez was on her way into the Brands Park shelter, she was told she had to ‘schedule a visit in advance’.

‘They couldn’t keep me out. I still went through the door, and I said, “No, I’m not leaving,” Sanchez said.

The alderwoman persisted that Favorite Staffing employees at that shelter, and others around the city were completing so much overtime because of the ‘corporate mindset’.

Sanchez also went on to talk about how libraries in Chicago need to remain inclusive and try to avoid ‘conservative thoughts’ at a budget meeting.

In the meeting she said: ‘I think that this is deeply related to the budget. What do we need in order to ensure that we have a robust system that is strengthening the critical thinking of our city?’

In 2020 the lawmaker also went as far as to send a letter to Joe Biden pleading for the president to not let Rahm Emanuel join his administration.

Sanchez said that the Chicago community ‘broke out in cheers’ when Biden was announced as President, and compared it to how the city reacted Rahm Emanuel, Chicago’s former mayor left the office.

She then went on to say how Rahm Emanuel was highly ridiculed by the city’s community and listed specific examples of what he did.

She claimed that Emanuel ‘covered up the police murder of seventeen-year-old Laquan McDonald in 2014.’

She then went on to mention that he also closed 50 public schools and half of the city’s mental health clinics, along with other instances.

In August Sanchez signed off on a nonprofit developer’s plan to build 100 percent affordable housing in Irving Park for Indigenous people, Block Club Chicago reported.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Sanchez is the first Latinx Alderwoman to represent the 33rd ward of Chicago and is the chair of the immigration committee on the City Council’s Latino Caucus. She is also a member of the Progressive Caucus.

‘Alderwoman Rodriguez-Sanchez has been a lifelong advocate for public education, labor rights, and the wellbeing of youth and families,’ her website said.

.com contacted the Alderwoman’s office for comment.

In 2021 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made headlines when she wore a white gown that read ‘Tax the Rich’ in red paint to the Met Gala.

Ethics investigators looked into her after her unforgettable appearance and revealed that they have ‘substantial reason to believe’ that AOC violated ethics with her attendance.

A number of conservative groups also asked the committee to look into the New York Democratic congresswoman being comped $35,000 for the gala.

According to investigators, AOC’s staff didn’t pay for her rental dress, makeup, and other accessories until February 2022 – nearly a year after the gala.
