alert-–-wild-moment-a-house-tumbles-down-a-hill-after-a-horror-landslide-on-the-mornington-peninsulaAlert – Wild moment a house tumbles down a hill after a horror landslide on the Mornington Peninsula

An entire house has fallen down a cliff on a residential street after a deafening landslide rocked Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula.

First responders including police and fire crews rushed to the scene on Penny Lane in McCrae after an emergency alert was issued at 8.49am on Tuesday.

One person has been taken to hospital in a stable condition after being treated at the scene for a minor injury by paramedics.

VICSES Sorrento Unit Controller Mark Daw said about 12 homes had been evacuated.

‘There’s a significant amount of crew on the ground at the moment. Which will eventually scale back once we are happy with the situation,’ he said.

‘At the moment it’s still really raw. We’re just trying to get our heads around everything.’

Mr Daw said it was unclear if there would be more movement following the slide.

‘At the moment we’re just not sure. That’s why we’ve got exclusion zones from here all the back and all the way in front of the foreshore too, just to make sure that no one is in harms way,’ he said.

It comes after resident Karen O’Halloran described the sound of the house sliding down the hill as ‘horrendous’.

‘I just witnessed the whole thing and I’m still in shock. Our emergency services are amazing,’ she wrote on social media.

Another resident described the incident as ‘terrifying’.

‘Not surprising with all the rain. Shocking for everyone. Hope everyone is safe.’

The County Fire Authority (CFA) is inspecting the site to ensure no other structures are at risk and are assisting first responders.

A SES spokesman said crews from the Sorrento unit had been dispatched to the scene and are working to clear the area.

Several properties in the immediately vicinity of the home have been evacuated.

‘We’ve cleared the buildings and no one has been trapped inside,’ a spokesman said.

Point Nepean Road has been closed in McCreae in both directors near Penny Lane and police have urged motorists to avoid the area.

Vic Emergency also issued an update urging locals to stay clear of the area.

‘Stay away from the landslide. The slope may continue to move for hours or days afterwards,’ the alert read.

Residents have been advised there is no risk to the foreshore camping area.
