A woman has been killed and her husband left hospitalized following a tragic construction accident at their $1 million home.
The horrific incident took place in Oakton, Virginia on Tuesday.
The woman was killed after something fell on top of her at around 4.35pm, neighbors told FOX 5.
Her husband was also sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries shortly after the incident.
Officers raced to the scene and closed the road down in both directions.
The couple was building a new property together in the 12000 block of Waples Mill Road. Police have yet to release their identities.
‘I’ve seen people coming in and out and they were offloading some construction material and unfortunately, yeah, she passed and I’m not sure what was the injury or what was the issue but yeah,’ the neighbor told FOX 5. ‘Everybody’s shaken up.’
Additional unconfirmed reports stated that emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the woman pinned under a large construction box.
She reportedly succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her husband was left with a broken leg.
It later reportedly emerged that a balcony had collapsed.
Fairfax County Police Department said it is investigating the accident and has referred the matter to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
