A mathematical sum using all twelve numbers on a clock has left thousands of internet users stumped.
The cryptic video was uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, by @gunsnrosesgirl3 on December 18.
Viewed over 47million times and generating over 7,000 responses from perplexed users, a simple caption accompanied the thirteen-second video: ‘Why 13?’
Puzzlers were baffled as each opposite-facing number on the clock equalled ’13’ when added together.
Users were asked to work out why the numbers equated to the exact same figure.
A mathematical sum using all twelve numbers on a clock has left thousands of internet users stumped – with many scrambling to provide the correct answer
Puzzlers were sent through the realms of space, time and history as each opposite facing number on the clock was demonstrated to equal ’13’ when added together
In the footage, an unknown person is seen scrawling circles around two sets of numbers in a clockwise motion.
The demonstrator starts ’12’ at the top of the clock, circling it to add with the ‘1’ next it, before going onto separately circle ’11’ and ‘2’ together in back to forth motion.
As each opposite number is added, it becomes clear that each set results in ’13’ – but users are left spooked by the ‘coincidence.’
One stumped X user answered, ’13 moon cycles,’ while another claimed, ‘My maths teacher did not teach me dis.’
A third bamboozled individual answered: ‘I’m guessing 13 because there are 13 zodiac signs when you include the masculine sign.’
However, some concluded that each result of ’13’ derives from simple addition and subtraction, with the clock’s ‘clockwise’ sequence serving as a distraction.
One person wrote: ‘Because the clock finishes at 12. If it finished at 10 the result would be 11.’
Another answered: ‘This is simple addition and subtraction, the clock face is a distraction. You could make the number infinite with a final even number and would get a similar result.’
Many X users were left stumped by the seemingly complicated demonstration, however, others concluded that the result of ’13’ each time is a case of ‘simple addition and subtraction’
Emmy, known as @brixwe on X, shared a puzzling brain teaser image alongside the caption, ‘What did you get?’ – generating over 100 varying guesses from keen critical thinkers
A final puzzler gave their own conclusion, writing: ‘Very easy here. We start with 12 + 1 and going down with circles which implies that the clock goes +1 on the right and -1 on the left which then means it will always be the same result at the end… 13.’
Another mathematical puzzle shared to X earlier this month left internet users scratching their heads… with a range of answers offered in solution.
The baffling equation was uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, by user Emmy, from the US, to her 170K following on December 7.
Emmy, known as @brixwe on the social app, shared the image alongside the caption, ‘What did you get?’ – generating over 100 varying guesses from keen critical thinkers.
The puzzle comprises of images of particular objects: a table, an alarm clock set to a precise time and rolls of blue paper.
Three sums have been pre-solved, which serves as a clue for analytical minds to work out the answer to the final equation – but it appears to be more difficult than it looks.
