Whoopi Goldberg invited ridicule with her latest anti-Trump rant as she described herself as a ‘working class American’ despite her huge fortune.
The comedian, 69, cried poverty on The View this week as she complained that she is a ‘working person’ and her ‘kid has to feed her family.’
‘I appreciate that people are having a hard time, and me too – I work for a living,’ Goldberg – real name Caryn Johnson – said. ‘If I had all the money in the world I would not be here.’
In insider previously told The Sun in 2022 that Goldberg rakes in a whopping $8 million-a-year just from hosting The View.
She also owns a $15.7 million real estate portfolio, including a stunning $8.8 million mansion in upstate New York.
Despite her fortune built up over decades in showbusiness – being one of only 21 individuals to win all EGOT awards – Goldberg claimed to her fellow The View co-hosts that she is struggling financially.
‘I’m a working person,’ she continued in her rant. ‘And my kid has to feed her family, and my great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family.
‘I know it’s hard out there, but I also know that there are a lot of things that we just said ‘no, we’re just going to go this way”, she said as she brushed her hands together.
‘I love what she did, yay,’ Goldberg said, seemingly talking about Kamala Harris’ doomed candidacy.
‘But we talk to people all the time who say this is what’s bothering them. But the thing that’s bothering everybody, should not be the thing that puts 85 percent of other people in danger.’
The remarks drew backlash from viewers who quickly pointed to Goldberg’s reported net worth in the region of $45 million, slamming the Oscar-winning actress as ‘tone deaf.’
‘Doesn’t she help her family then?’ one questioned. ‘I know if I was worth $45 million my family would never know what it is to struggle again.’
‘She’s got to be one of the most tone deaf celebrities I’ve ever seen,’ said another.
‘I truly don’t know how anyone genuinely watches this lady except to mock her.’
Goldberg is notably self-made, and grew up in a public housing project in Chelsea, Manhattan.
But since gaining her fortune, one critic of her rant this week argued that her attitude ‘is the whole problem with the Democrat elitist party.’
‘They think they are down with the struggle while being worth millions of dollars.’
Goldberg has made no secret of her millions in the past, and drew headlines in 2018 when she put a stunning Pacific Palisades mansion on the market for $8.8 million – after buying it in 1994 for just $2.55 million.
The art deco home boasted an impressive, curved pool, five huge en-suite bathrooms and bedrooms, and views across the ocean.
Goldberg later moved to New Jersey to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City, and purchased a sprawling $3 million mansion.
The estate covered 425 acres and features a pool and gym, while being close enough to the city for Goldberg to commute in for The View.
