It’s good news for Wetherspoons customers, as the chain has decided to slash its prices for January.

While there have been some disheartening predictions that the average London pint could cost £14 in 2025, pub-goers are thrilled to hear the chain is reducing their prices even further.

Thanks to the deal, buying a pint of Doom Bar or Bud Light will set you back as little as £1.99, while those wanting to drink a fruity strawberry daiquiri, margarita or even an espresso martini will have to shell out £2.99.

The popular pub announced that the sale will last from January 2 until 17 for those in England and Wales, while price cuts only began yesterday for customers in Scotland.

‘The range of drinks and food on sale in the pubs is aimed at suiting a wide variety of tastes. This year we have included our biggest selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks.

‘I believe that the January Sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pubs will serve customers responsibly.’

The sale comes after customers hit out at the chain for raising the price of its £10 meal deal to nearly £20.

One customer of a Manchester branch, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to protests that her three small plates deal cost £17.75.

Between November 2021 and 2023 the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks rose by 21 per cent, a stark comparison to the 10% rise between 2011 and 2021.

The original poster added: ‘Honestly there needs to be a Spoons price index to track the rate of Spoons hyperinflation.’

Replying to the original tweet, one user wrote: ‘It genuinely goes up every single time I go in, how much do they spend on reprinting menus?’

Another customer joked the deal was ‘a new inflation calculator to rival Freddos’.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: ‘Our prices do vary from pub to pub, as do our rent and rates.

‘We always aim to remain competitive, overall, in the areas in which we operate and most price surveys seem to indicate we achieve that.’
