A major retail centre in Sydney’s west has been evacuated due to a fire, disrupting thousands of Christmas shoppers.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said firefighters attended Penrith Westfield about 1.20pm on Sunday after a fire broke out at a food court inside the popular shopping destination.
It is understood as many as 3000 people were evacuated as firefighters attempted to manage the blaze.
One person was reportedly treated by ambulance for smoke inhalation.

The fire was extinguished about 1.50pm.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
