Kamala Harris has been heckled during a holiday speech at her home by a Democratic lawmaker demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Vice President was accosted by Delaware representative Madinah Wilson-Anton who unrolled a banner that read ‘ceasefire’ during the event on Monday.
Harris was speaking at her and second gentleman Doug Emhoff’s residence at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC, where they had been hosting festivities for officials when she was interrupted.
‘Madam Vice President, I am a rep from Delaware. Did you know in Bethlehem they are not celebrating Christmas? Did you know in Bethlehem, baby Jesus is under rubble? Why won’t you call for a cease-fire?’ Wilson-Anton shouted at Harris.
The Vice President fired back: ‘I appreciate you wanting to be heard, but right now I’m speaking.’

Wilson-Anton unfurled a banner which read ‘ceasefire’ before she was escorted out of the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC where the event was being held
Wilson-Anton was then escorted out of the room. She later took to X, formerly Twitter, to post a video of the incident.
The 30-year-old was elected as the first Muslim official in the state after being voted into the Delaware House of Representatives in 2021.
She previously worked at the University of Delaware’s Biden Institute.
Wilson-Anton joins the likes of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) in calling for a ceasefire.

Wilson-Anton was then escorted out of the room after the outburst during Harris’ speech
Her outburst comes after a group of more than 40 interns wrote an anonymous letter demanding the president and his deputy call for an ‘immediate ceasefire’ in Gaza.
The missive accused Biden and Harris of having ‘ignored’ the ‘pleas of the American people.’
The White House has stopped short of calling for a full ceasefire but has pushed for humanitarian pauses in Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza.
More than 18,000 Palestinians have been killed in the bombing, according to the nation’s health ministry.
A seven-day ceasefire was previously agreed by the Israeli government to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and for Hamas to release hostages in exchange for Palestinian captives.
The temporary cease-fire expired on December 1.
