The View’s Joy Behar ranted about the United States of America being named after a ‘white man’ during a debate over the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.

During a discussion on the ABC talk show Thursday, the co-hosts mulled the White House’s decision to ban an Associate Press reporter from the Oval Office.

The news organization had refused to call the Gulf of Mexico the ‘Gulf of America’ after Donald Trump renamed the body of water.

The View’s lone Republican, Alyssa Farah Griffin, said she was fine with the renaming because it is a more inclusive term.

‘It is North America. Mexico and the United States are part of the Americas. It would be petty if he called it the Gulf of the United States,’ she said.

Behar then chimed in to complain that the United States was named after a white man.

‘This country that we’re in was settled by indigenous people, right? And yet they named the country after an Italian white man, Amerigo Vespucci,’ she said.

‘That’s what America is named after, Amerigo Vespucci, a white European. Why was it named after a white man if it was settled by indigenous people?’

Co-host Sara Haines added that renaming of bodies of water is a relatively common practice.

‘The body of water south of China, which much of the world calls the South China Sea, China calls it South Sea, Vietnam calls it Eastern Sea and the Philippines has designated parts of it the West Philippines Sea,’ she said. ‘So it happens.’

Behar then jumped to ranting about how Trump should be focusing on more important things.

‘But why does he care about it when the prices are going up on the eggs?’ she said. ‘People did not vote to rename the Gulf of Mexico.’

On Wednesday, Behar claimed that Trump’s mission to abolish the penny is because he’s ‘jealous of Lincoln.’

The veteran TV host argued that ‘small and petty’ Trump wanted rid of the penny because he’s ‘jealous of everyone’.

‘Trump has loyalty to no one, look what he did to his first Vice President,’ Behar said.

‘I mean it’s really – and he’s jealous of everyone. Now he’s getting rid of the penny, he’s even jealous of Lincoln. He’s so small and petty.’

Musk and his son X, full name X Æ A-Xii, pronounced ex-ash-ay-twelve, appeared at the White House alongside President Trump on Tuesday.

Speaking on Wednesday morning, Goldberg said: ‘Yesterday Elon Musk took his son X to a press conference’, Behar interrupted questioning the toddler’s name, saying; ‘X?’

Shaking her head, Goldberg added: ‘I did not name the child, and I don’t want to hear anymore mess about our names’, prompting laughter from the panel.

Attempting to get back to her point, she then said: ‘Any who, he took little X’, before Behar interrupted again saying: ‘And little Instagram’.

She had seemingly been trying to poke fun at the fact Musk’s son shares the same name as his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Behar was quickly corrected that Musk doesn’t own Instagram, which falls under the Meta banner alongside Facebook.
