This is the shocking moment a mob of 40 people looted a FedEx truck while it was stopped at a red light in Memphis, Tennessee.

Around 8:30pm Saturday, a 53-foot trailer was ransacked while it sat in traffic at the intersection of Riverport Road and West Mallory Avenue.

After the driver reported the theft, the Memphis police arrived and saw vehicles speeding away recklessly along with a number of boxes thrown across the road.

The truck driver told the police that cars blocked the intersection just before a group of men broke open the sealed back door and looted the trailer.

Three men have since been detained after the raging group caused nearly $10,000 in damages – and stole numerous items such as Kicker Speakers, a box of air liners and three DirectTV cable boxes.

A video of the theft starts with the large group grabbing random packages from the partially open back door of the truck.

A mountain of brown boxes stacked on top of each other are quickly stolen by the thieves, some taking more than one at a time. As the thieves run away with the merchandise, some of it falls to the ground in front of cars stuck in the traffic jam created by the scene.

Nearly every looter has a hood or face covering on as drivers nearby watch in amazement and some even laugh at the incident.

The savage group soon gets the entire back door open as boxes spill out of the tractor-trailer and contents are revealed.

The video then cuts to one of the robbers walking toward cars with a package in each hand as the person behind the camera laughs.

‘Man, now he trying to move,’ the man behind the camera says as the truck driver tries to escape the mayhem.

As the video ends, the driver manages to move forward but looters keep on taking from the truck.

The thieves managed to break through the truck’s safety latch with an unknown tool.

Fox 13 revealed around 2.30am Sunday officers received a call from Breezy Point Apartments security who said that they had detained three people. The security guards told Memphis police that while the apartment complex was on lockdown, they noticed the men inside a white Chevrolet.

They added the vehicle smelled of marijuana as security asked the men to identify themselves just before they searched the car.

Security then told police the three men reportedly confessed to taking items from the FedEx truck just hours before.

When police arrived at the complex, the men told them that the items they had were taken from the street and not directly from the truck.

Reports revealed that the items found in the car consisted of four Kicker Speakers 6X9, one 14-piece pot and pan set, one vehicle headlight, along with a box of air liners and three DirectTV cable boxes.

County Commissioner Charlie Caswell told WMC Memphis that his daughter was caught in the chaos on Saturday night on her way to his house.

He said that ‘she got trailed through Frayser to Raleigh and hit in the back, spun her car around’ just before a woman and man started to beat on her windows and tried to pull her out of the car.

Caswell’s daughter got away and drove to the local fire station where she tried to get someone to help, but nobody responded.

‘She had to drive through the grass and jump the curb to get away from these people to make it to my house last night because of this attempt of snatching her,’ Caswell said.

The Commissioner also told police a majority of the people involved were kids from the Frayser and Raleigh area.

In response to the frightening situation FedEx told DailyMail.com: ‘The safety of our team members and the security of our customers’ shipments are top priorities, and we are grateful there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident.

‘We are cooperating fully with investigating authorities and taking appropriate steps to address this matter.’

This news comes just after an Amazon delivery truck was looted as the helpless driver looked on.

A group of approximately six thieves that looked to be young boys raided a large walk-in delivery truck after the driver left the door wide open.

They frantically grabbed boxes as the female driver watched from a nearby sidewalk and did nothing.

She appeared to be fed up with the robbers that snuck up on her while she delivered other packages in an apartment complex that is believed to be in Atlanta, Georgia.

It is unclear exactly what was stolen from the truck and who the thieves were, but Amazon told DailyMail.com that police are investigating the incident.
