Police are preparing to respond to more than 100 planned far-right gatherings and dozens of counter-protests in what is feared could be the ‘busiest day’ of the UK riots so far, according to a police source.
Gatherings are anticipated in 41 of the 43 police force areas across England and Wales with officers based in London and the South East redeployed to northern towns and cities, the PA News Agency has reported.
It comes amid fears dozens of addresses for immigration lawyers, refugee shelters and charities could be targeted following a ‘hitlist’ of 39 locations, while 6,000 officers are on stand-by to respond to thugs.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old thug from Southport, Derek Drummond, has been jailed for three years today in the longest prison sentence handed down to a rioter hauled before the courts.
