Two women have been killed and four other people – including a baby – hurt in a horror hit-and-run smash on Boxing Day. 

The crash took place on Boxing Day in Shard End, Birmingham, shortly after 8pm.  

A  quad bike slammed into with a BMW 4 Series and a MG ZS. Two women in the MG, one aged in her 40s and the other in her 70s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other people, including a baby, were rushed to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

West Midland Police has not confirmed which vehicles the injured victims had been travelling in. The driver of the BMW fled the scene but was arrested by cops later.

The BMW driver fled the scene but a man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A police spokesperson said: ‘He is currently in hospital and will be spoken to when deemed medically fit to be questioned.’

Another man was also arrested for assisting an offender and is currently in custody for questioning.

The quad bike left the scene and police are hunting identify the rider.

Detective Sergeant Julie Lyman, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the families who have been affected by this awful collision.

‘It remains vital that we fully establish exactly what happened with all the vehicles involved, so I’d ask the rider of the quad bike to get in touch as I believe you are a key witness to the tragic events which have occurred.’
