alert-–-two-music-legends-are-‘battling-it-out’-to-land-the-coveted-glastonbury-legends-slot-for-2024Alert – Two music legends are ‘battling it out’ to land the coveted Glastonbury Legends slot for 2024

Two music legends are reportedly battling it out to land the coveted Glastonbury Legends slot for 2024.

The tea time slot on the Pyramid Stage on the final day of the festival has previously seen performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton and Dame Shirley Bassey.

And the two most likely contestants for this year’s festival – which will take place from June 26 to 30 at Worthy Down Farm – are said to be Shania Twain and Chaka Khan.

Both pop icons have free space in their diaries for the festival weekend, while organiser Emily Eavis has previously confirmed that this year’s Legend is female.

A source told The Sun: ‘Talks have been ongoing, for months and months, with both Chaka and Shania.

‘The organisers have left it far later than usual to nail down the festival’s three headliners, and that has meant no decision has been made about who to choose for the Legend slot.

‘But Chaka and Shania are top of the list, have said they would be interested and are keeping the date free.’

Chaka, 70, has notably kept the Glastonbury weekend free in her diary as she prepares to tour the UK next summer.

Meanwhile Shania, 58, has a Las Vegas residency planned for May but is then free until the middle of August.

When asked by The Sun previously whether she would be up for taking the coveted slot, The Man! I Feel Like A Woman singer played her cards close to her chest but said it would be a ‘dream come true’.

Last year’s Legends slot was filled by Cat Stevens.

Stars tipped to be in the running to headline include Cher, Bruce Springsteen, Dua Lipa and veteran headliners Coldplay.

Coldplay have headlined four times before – in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Glastonbury bosses have been accused of choosing too many male acts to headline in recent years.

Last year the line-up was all male, with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Sir Elton John taking the top slots.

Addressing the lack of women headliners, Ms Eavis said: ‘I’ve always been really passionate about gender split [on festival line-ups] and I think, actually, our problem was that I’d been so outspoken about it that having a year when there wasn’t a female sent people a bit mad – or some people.

‘And we did have a female – she pulled out and we replaced them with Guns N’ Roses. But everyone knows that it’s top of my list.

‘It is difficult with female artists because there aren’t enough headliners. But we’re also creating them. We’re putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time. And who knows? Next year we might get two. And certainly, I can say that the Legend is female.’

Cher meanwhile has ‘confirmed’ herself for Glastonbury 2024, saying she would love to play at next year’s festival.

Speaking on Scott Mills’ radio show, Rylan asked: ‘There are so many rumours, you haven’t done it yet, Glastonbury. Are we ever going to see Cher take on that Legends slot at Glastonbury?’

‘I’d like to!’ Cher replied. Sounding shocked, Rylan asked: ‘Really?’ to which Cher said: ‘Yes!’

Rylan added: ‘Right, Cher shake my hand. I’m going to go down to Worthy Farm myself.’
