A group of deranged gunmen filmed a deadly ambush on police officers in Mexico, capturing the moment they unleashed a barrage of bullets on the lawmen.

The terrifying incident unfolded Tuesday morning in Jerécuaro in the state of Guanajuato.

Two cops were killed in the shooting, while an adult pedestrian was shot and died at the hospital.

A child was also wounded in the attack.

The municipal officers were parked in pickup truck and were surveying a road that links Jerécuaro and Apaseo el Alto when they were ambushed.

Footage showed the gunmen stepping out of one of their vehicles and firing assault rifles at the truck.

The assassins’ driver recorded the shooting and panned the camera at one of his accomplices as the gunman emptied his ammunition.

As the getaway driver started to pull away, one of the shooters noticed that a police officer was still alive.

‘He’s down there, he’s down there,’ the driver shouted as he rode up the officers.

‘Kill him, kill him,’ he repeatedly screamed.

A gunman opened the front passenger door and began to fire while another stepped out and shot.

No criminal group has claimed responsibility for the incident in Guanajuato, where the Unión de León, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel have been involved in a long-running dispute over fuel theft and the drug trade.

The cops, who were identified only as Carlos and Erick, were laid to rest Wednesday.

‘Their bravery, commitment and sacrifice will always remain engraved in our hearts,’ the Jerécuaro Department of Public Security, Transit and Civil Protection said in a statement.

‘They will always be remembered with affection and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing them. May their legacy of honor and service inspire future generations.’

The attack took place a day after four state police officers were killed and two were wounded when their two pickup trucks were intercepted by gunmen in a SUV in the municipality of Uriangato.

On October 24, two car bombs exploded in Jerécuaro and Acámbaro, injuring three police officers and causing extensive damages to buildings and residences.

Guanajuato topped all of Mexico’s 31 states and Mexico City, the capital, with 3,390 murders – an average of eight per day – from January 1 to December 16, according to data released by Mexico’s State Public Security System Executive Secretariat.

At least 67 police officers have been murdered this year.

Guanajuato Governor Libia Muñoz acknowledged that law enforcement forces are entrenched in a ‘one-side war’ with criminal organizations.

‘It is a war that we face unequally,’ Muñoz told reporters.

‘That is, they were attacked with automatic long weapons, when we do not have permission to carry those weapons as agencies. It is something that we are already discussing in the National Security Council.’
