alert-–-trump-makes-stunning-’51st-state’-call-in-front-of-canada’s-new-pm-mark-carney:-live-updatesAlert – Trump makes stunning ’51st state’ call in front of Canada’s new PM Mark Carney: Live updates

President Donald Trump humiliated Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office on Tuesday as he doubled down on his ’51st state’ plans.

The explosive meeting came as the relationship between the U.S. and its neighbor has been undermined by the president’s talk of annexing Canada, and his imposition of massive tariffs.

Trump said the U.S.-Canada border was an ‘artificially drawn line’ and if they joined together it would be a ‘wonderful marriage.’ He added: ‘But it takes two to tango, right?’

Carney appeared to squirm in his seat and fired back that Canada was ‘not for sale.’

Canada’s Liberal Party won an April 28 election on the back of promises to stand up to Trump.

Trump admits it 'takes two to tango' in climb down from push to make Canada 51st state

By Geoff Earle, Deputy U.S. Political Editor

There was a strikingly cordial tone between Trump and Carney, even during polite but stark disagreements over Trump’s drive to make Canada the 51st U.S. State.

Trump said that he ‘still’ believes in the idea, but then added: ‘But it takes two to tango, right?’

‘We’re not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it,’ he said before meeting with the Canadian PM, who campaigned in opposition to the idea.

Trump said it would be a ‘wonderful marriage,’ but Carney told the former developer flatly: ‘There are some places that are never for sale,’ mentioning the Whtie House and Buckingham Palace.

In another rhetorical concession, Trump said Canada ‘is stepping up the military participation.’

But he refused to call the idea dead. ‘I say “never say never,”’ Trump said.

Trump teases 'very, very big announcement' before Middle East trip

President Donald Trump teased that he will make a major announcement ahead of his trip next week to the Middle East, without revealing what it would be.

He said in the Oval Office:

We’re going to have a very, very big announcement to make. Like, as big as it gets, and I won’t tell you on what. And it’s very positive. It’ll be one of the most important announcements that have been made in years about a certain subject,” Trump said.

Trump did not offer further clues. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who was holding a meeting with Trump, responded drily:

I’m on the edge of my seat.”

Trump heads next week to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on the first foreign trip of his second term other than a brief stop in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis.

Vance and Rubio soak up Trump's remarks after he named them as potential successors

By Geoff Earle, Deputy U.S. Political Editor

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio each lapped up President Trump’s jokes while seated next to each other during Trump’s Oval Office meeting with the PM of Canada.

It was their first time together before the public since Trump mentioned each of them as potential successors while mostly knocking down the idea of a seeking a third term got himself despite the 22nd Amendment.

Trump mentioned Rubio three times during the meeting – inviting his new acting national security advisor to speak at one point – while mentioning his vice president twice. Vance did not speak.

Both laughed heartily when Trump joked about cost overruns in the high-speed rail project between L.A. and San Francisco. Trump said just providing ‘limousine service’ would have saved hundreds of millions of dollars. The two leading Republicans laughed heartily and looked at each other when he said it.

‘They have a thing called a highway that goes back and forth,’ Trump riffed, continuing to dump on the project, prompting Rubio to laugh out loud and Vance to lower his head in amusement.

At one point after Trump attacked construction of the Obama library Vance stuck out his arm as if to get Trump’s attention to speak, but didn’t get the chance.

On Sunday’s ‘Meet the Press’ Trump called Vance ‘fantastic’ and Rubio ‘great’ after saying he’ll ‘be an eight-year president.’

Inside divide driving a wedge between John Fetterman and his 'missing' wife – as his devastating decline is exposed

Jon Michael Raasch, Political Reporter for DailyMail.com

Senator John Fetterman’s doting wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, has not been seen around Capitol Hill despite concerns over her husband’s health.

Her absence comes after a New York Magazine article blew the lid off of the 55-year-old Pennsylvania senator’s closely guarded health history.

Fetterman, 55, had a stroke while running for Senate in May 2022, and has since used an iPhone to translate incoming questions as he continues to suffer from audio-visual impairment from the health episode.

The report, citing former and current Fetterman staffers, detailed how the Democrat has recently appeared despondent to some while ‘manic’ and ‘unhinged’ to others.

It also details Fetterman’s March 2023 stint in the Walter Reed hospital near Washington for depression, and how he neglected to follow through on his rehabilitation regimen, which included regular bloodwork and medication.

Gisele, 43, initially had a high profile around her husband’s office after he won the election and was recovering from his stroke.

Trump reveals question he will ask Mark Carney

Shortly before the meeting Trump wrote on Truth Social:

I look forward to meeting the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney. I very much want to work with him, but cannot understand one simple TRUTH — Why is America subsidizing Canada by $200 Billion Dollars a year, in addition to giving them FREE Military Protection, and many other things?

We don’t need their Cars, we don’t need their Energy, we don’t need their Lumber, we don’t need ANYTHING they have, other than their friendship, which hopefully we will always maintain. They, on the other hand, need EVERYTHING from us! The Prime Minister will be arriving shortly and that will be, most likely, my only question of consequence.

FBI 'downplayed' anti-GOP motivation of gunman at 2017 baseball shooting shocking report reveals

Jon Michael Raasch, Political Reporter for DailyMail.com

House Republicans released a bombshell report into the notorious 2017 shooting of a congressman, finding the FBI fumbled the report and covered up the shooter’s true motive.

The shooting, which was carried out by James T. Hodgkinson, injured Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., who was shot in the hip – an injury initially listed as ‘critical.’ A staffer was also shot in the leg, and in total, six were wounded.

The House Judiciary Committee, Intelligence Committee and Intelligence Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigation released the report early Tuesday morning after obtaining thousands of unreleased documents on the tragedy from the Trump administration.

After the review, Republicans claim that FBI leadership avoided transparency and accountability for assigning the shooter’s motive as ‘suicide by cop.’

Stunningly, in 2021, without reason, the FBI later changed the motivation to ‘domestic terrorism,’ the report claims. The report also says the FBI did not make the change based on new evidence.

EU says 'all options' remain open in Trump tariff war

The European Union is under no pressure to accept an unfair tariff deal with the United States, its trade chief said on Tuesday.

He adding that the EU was being contacted by other countries seeking to forge closer trade ties with the 27-nation bloc.

The EU faces 25 percent US import tariffs on its steel, aluminum and cars and so-called ‘reciprocal’ tariffs of 10 percent for almost all other goods.

That levy could rise to 20 percent after President Donald Trump’s 90-day pause expires on July 8.

European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said the EU would use the pause to prepare further rebalancing measures and ensure a level playing field if talks failed.

He told the European Parliament:

All options remain on the table here. We do not feel weak. We do not feel under undue pressure to accept a deal, which would not be fair for us.

Mike Pence risks Trump fury as he unloads over tariffs, Russia, Greenland and Jan 6: 'Deeply disappointed'

Former Vice President Mike Pence picked apart key elements of the Donald Trump agenda, weighing in on ‘wavering’ support for Ukraine and tariffs he said would drive up inflation.

Pence slapped at the Trump agenda in a CNN interview a day after collecting the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award at the JFK Library Foundation in Boston for his refusal to go along with Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election results.

While he has long criticized Trump’s actions that day, his latest criticisms touch on the economy and Trump’s expansionist foreign policy statements.

Bessent says $2 billion was cut from IRS technology budget

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday said the Trump administration has cut $2 billion from the IRS information technology budget.

He said there were no operational disruptions as a result.

And it will save hundreds of millions of dollars more by automating processing of paper forms.

Last year, the IRS spent approximately $450 million on paper processing with nearly 6,500 full-time staff dedicated to the task.

Through policy changes and automation, Treasury aims to reduce this expense to under $20 million by the end of President Trump’s second term.

Trump to meet Canada PM at White House amid tariff war and '51st state' row

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney meets Donald Trump on Tuesday for the first time since he won reelection on a pledge to stand up to the US president’s tariffs and threats to annex the United States’ northern neighbor.

The 60-year-old Liberal Party leader has said that things cannot be the same with the United States under Trump, and warned not to expect any immediate agreements from the meeting at the White House.

Trump has sparked a major trade war with Canada, which counts the United States as its main ally and trading partner, while repeatedly making calls for Canada to become the 51st US state.

Trump called Carney a ‘very nice gentleman’ after they spoke last week but said on Monday that he was ‘not sure’ what Carney wanted to talk about. Trump said:

He’s coming to see me. I’m not sure what he wants to see me about, but I guess he wants to make a deal. Everybody does.

Trump is set to welcome Carney at 11:30am, followed by lunch and then a meeting in the Oval Office.
