Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan and Democratic New York City Mayor Eric announced a surprising joint venture to crack down on illegal immigration in the Big Apple.
Sitting side-by-side on Fox & Friends Friday morning the unlikely team, flashing smiles and trading jokes, announced an array of policy objectives to help Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) better operate in the city.
‘I’ve been on this network for four years, and I’ve called the mayor out many times for not stepping up when it comes to public safety threats,’ Homan began the joint interview. ‘But I tell you, when I sat down with him, I saw the cop in him, and he really does want to do the right thing.’
Adams welcomed Homan’s help, claiming he has tried to fight the city’s immigration-related woes for years, adding ‘we need to go after these dangerous people in our streets, and now I have someone that understands that narrative, and we are fighting together to get it done.’
The friendly duo then shared some initiatives they are planning to help ICE and New York law enforcement get illegal aliens out of town despite roadblocks put up by the city council.
The city’s most famous jail, Rikers Island, will now host ICE agents who can collaborate with NYPD to identify dangerous criminals, the pair announced.
‘As I sat down with Tom earlier, I said that we’re going to look at all the legalese,’ Adams said of reestablishing an ICE office at Rikers.
‘I’m able to do an executive order to put them back on Rikers Island where they should be with part of our criminal justice apparatus,’ the Democrat shared.
Homan lauded the mayor for reestablishing the ICE office.
‘Getting back in Rikers Island is a game changer,’ the border czar said.
Specifically the new office will enable intelligence sharing between NYPD and ICE, helping federal authorities better understand the movements of migrant and migrant gangs like Tren de Aragua (TdA).
‘Not only will we get the bad guys when they hit the street, the intelligence of how TDA operates, where they’re operating, all this intelligence they gather at Rikers we’ll have access to,’ the border boss said.
Adams and Homan are also weighing their legal options to override the city council’s sanctuary city laws to enable ICE to collaborate with NYPD on civil cases, not just criminal cases.
Though as it stands, the sanctuary policies restrict ICE from collaborating with local law enforcement.
‘Mayor Adams, he’s dealing with these sanctuary law right?’ Homan said.
Though an executive order from the mayor cannot rid the city of its sanctuary laws Homan and Adams are exploring routes to circumvent those policies.
‘So we’re working on some things to work around some of these things, we’re being careful,’ Homan explained.
Both men said the liberal NYC city council is impeding their ability to enforce migration laws – a problem they are working on fixing, they shared.
The mayor further noted that shared that he is working to shutter temporary migrant shelters as federal funding for the locations has dried up under Trump.
‘We’re continuing to close them down,’ Adams said of the migrant shelters. ‘We have to close down as the population decrease.’
But if Adams doesn’t fulfill his promises, Homan promised he’d come knocking on the mayor’s door.
‘If he doesn’t come through … I’ll be in his office, up his butt, saying, ‘Where the hell is the agreement we came to?” Homan said with a smile.
