A trans woman on TikTok has suggested the lead singer and founder of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, was ‘probably trans’ because he often wore women’s clothes.
Cobain, who died at 27 in April 1994 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound, was one of the most popular rock musicians of the 1990s.
The late star and his band helped lead the grunge revolution until his untimely death.
Cobain never stated his opinion of trans people which was not a big topic of discussion in the 1990s, however he performed concerts in dresses and he often appears in photoshoots in dresses, with makeup, and would wear nail polish and eyeliner.
But in a one minute video, shared by @lillytino_ the trans activist takes things a step furthering outlining a host of evidence that suggested Cobain was trans and might have even killed himself because of his inner turmoil.
‘I bet you didn’t know that Kurt Cobain was probably trans. First off, Kurt wore a lot of women’s clothing and when asked about this they said that they wore women’s dressed ‘all the time’ because they felt ‘comfortable and free”, Lilly Contino, from Atlanta, Georgia, said on TikTok. ‘Just look at Kurt in these pictures. They look so happy.
The video, shared by @lillytino_, quickly went viral as she suggested the late Nirvana frontman was trans because he often wore dresses on stage
Influencer Contino explained that ‘Kurt wore a lot of women’s clothing and when asked about this they said that they wore women’s dressed ‘all the time’ because they felt ‘comfortable and free’
‘And in an interview about their childhood Kurt said that they mostly hung out around girls and that at one point they thought they may be gay,’ Contino went on.
‘Many trans people who don’t have the vocabulary yet to express their gender identity will describe what they’re feeling as ‘being gay’. That’s exactly what I did in middle school.
‘Kurt it also quoted as saying that they identify more with the feminine than the masculine. This is clear proof that Kurt did not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth,’ the influencer with 330,000 followers suggested.
‘And the most convincing evidence that Kurt was trans – in an early version of Nirvana’s All Apologies lyrics Kurt wrote ‘Let me grow some balls.’ And of course Kurt will never able to tell us themselves.
‘The evidence makes it pretty obvious they were trans. That might be why Kurt is no longer with us. Maybe Kurt knew that we weren’t ready?’ Contino ends her outlandish theory.
Contino suggested that because Cobain liked to hang out with girls as a youngster it might have influenced his gender identity
Cobain would often wear dresses on stage but there was little chatter at the time of his sexuality

Online, the suggestion the rock idol might have been trans drew a fast and furious reaction.
‘Clothing doesn’t have gender. Kurt Cobain is dead. Let the man rest,’ wrote one user.
‘Don’t you dare f***ing disrespect Kurt Cobain like this,’ demanded another.
‘Let him rest in peace and not make up assumptions about him. He’s not here to agree to deny,’ wrote Tina.
‘I don’t think people are necessarily mad about the Kurt Cobain thing, but rather that you are kind doing the exact opposite of what you preach which is assuming someone’s gender and metal history,’ stated another TikToker.
‘Aren’t you the one who constantly gets mad when people call you the wrong gender? You are not Kurt Cobain, so it’s a lot to say,’ added one commenter.
‘Please leave Kurt Cobain alone! You preach so much about assuming people’s gender identitiy. He is not here to defend himself. Follow what you preach,’ said another.
Viewers of the TikTok video were outraged the trans activist would make assumptions about his gender identity on such flimsy evidence

Contino, 30, from Atlanta, Georgia has not responded to any of the criticism so far.
Contino grew up as male and was teased for being ‘flamboyant’ and ‘fat’ throughout high school.
In the past, the influencer has posted videos explaining gender dysphoria describing it as when there is ‘a mismatch between the body you’re born in and who you are.’
She says businesses have now reached out to her for advice on how to be trans inclusive and has even started her own firm, LillyContino Consulting LLC which makes her ‘outing’ of Cobain all the more surprising.
