An experienced parachutists has died in a horror skydiving accident at a rural property in southern Queensland.
Emergency services were called to Meandarra Talwood Road in Tarawera, near Goondiwindi on the Queensland-NSW border, around 8am on Tuesday.
Paramedics treated the 25-year-old man for life-threatening injuries, but he died at the scene.
His parachute is understood to have opened properly and the device functioned as normal, but he landed badly.
The man was attempting a group jump at an event organised for experienced skydivers along with four others. The four other divers all landed safely.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail the Forensic Crash Unit was sent to the property along with police helicopters.
Inspector Kelly Hanlen said officers are investigating the incident.
The n Parachute Federation (APF), who are also investigating the death of the man, said in a statement the man had been a skydiver for several years.
‘[He had] successfully landed more than 600 jumps since taking up the adventure sport in 2022,’ they told the ABC.
APF CEO Stephen Porter said the man grew up in the local skydiving community.
‘Our thoughts are with the young man’s family, which has been part of the skydiving community for many years, and we offer our condolences at this sad time,’ he said.
A safety officer from the organisation travelled to the crash scene to carry out their investigation.
The accident is understood to have occurred during a skills camp on Funny Farm, the Courier Mail reports.
The camp is being held on the property over five days after the event began on August 26, according to its Facebook page.
