His father, who was a former pupil, is reported to have been playing on a nearby pitch, according to The Sun.

Headteacher Simon Henderson told the newspaper Raphaël was an ‘outstanding young man’ who lived with ‘joy in his heart’.

He added that the pupil had the ‘brightest of futures ahead of him’ and had ‘excelled’ as a House Captain of the Field Game.

Speaking to The Telegraph, one parent said: ‘He collapsed on the field while he was doing sport and died. It was very sad.’

The Field Game is a sport unique to the school, along with the Eton Wall Game. It id s mix of rugby and football and the rules date back to 1847.

It includes two teams of eleven pupils playing with a Gaelic football – which is harder and smaller than the standard ball.
