A body has been found in the search for a mother who vanished without a trace more than two weeks ago.

Christine Stenson, 66, caught up with her sister for coffee and lunch on August 12 before she was dropped home in Wheatley, South Yorkshire about 5pm.

She had not been seen by her loved ones since.

Police this afternoon tragically revealed a body had been found during officers’ search efforts today.

While the remains are yet to be formally identified, South Yorkshire Police believe it is the body of Christine.

The force had issued multiple appeals in the hopes of finding the mother.

Officers yesterday released a fresh CCTV photo of the 66-year-old, while sharing a heartbreaking plea from her family.

They had also detailed Christine’s known movements until 6.03pm on August 12 – when she was last snapped on CCTV.

South Yorkshire Police this afternoon said: ‘Officers searching for missing 66-year-old woman Christine, who was last seen on Monday 12 August, have today found a body.

‘While formal identification is yet to take place, officers believe it to be that of Christine.

‘Her family has been informed and continue to be supported by officers at this time. We want to take this opportunity to thank the public who have been incredibly supportive in sharing our appeals.

‘Our thoughts are with Christine’s loved ones at this difficult time.’

The force said the mother was dropped off at an address at Hawke Road around 5.05pm on August 12.

Officers said they believed Christine left the property on foot within minutes as she was then seen on CCTV walking along Cantley Lane on the end near to the A638.

She was walking towards the Rose Hill Cemetery.

The force yesterday put out a devastating plea from Christine’s family, saying they had been left ‘heartbroken by her disappearance.

DS Welsh previously said search teams had been working tirelessly to find the mother – including off-road bike teams, mounted officers, drones, and specialist search dogs.
