A miner has died at one of Western ‘s biggest gold mines, 18 months after another fatality at the site.
The 21-year-old man died at St Ives mine site near Kambalda in Western , at 3pm on Tuesday.
St Ives is run by South African firm Gold Fields, and acting executive vice president for Graeme Ovens said operations had been immediately suspended.
‘It is with deep sadness that Gold Fields confirms that a colleague was fatally injured yesterday at the St Ives mine,’ he said.

‘The entire Gold Fields community extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and work colleagues of the contractor employee who passed away in the incident at a paste plant.’
Mr Ovens said work would resume when authorities deemed the site to be safe.
‘Making sure everyone goes home safe and well at the end of each the day is our first and most important value and we continue to work towards eliminating serious injuries and fatalities in our business,’ he said.
The 21-year-old man is the latest fatality at St Ives after Terry Hogan, 37, died at the Hamlet underground site in October 2022.
A Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety spokesman told Daily Mail they cannot comment on an active investigation.
Investigators from the mining industry regulator and Western n police officers were at the mining site on Wednesday morning.

Work Safe WA commissioner Sally North expressed her sympathy following the death of the man.
‘Every workplace fatality is a tragedy, and I extend my condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time,’ she said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
