Actress Tia Mowry has revealed that she is transforming her wedding ring into a gift for her two children – two years after her divorce from Cory Hardrict.

The Sister, Sister star got emotional as she admitted that she is taking her wedding ring out of the drawer it has been sitting in so she can pass it down to her kids, Cree, 13, and Cairo, six.

The 46-year-old – who tied the knot to Cory in 2008 – opened up about wanting to make something special for her children from the ring in a new episode of her show Tia Mowry: My Next Act.

She admitted that she was ‘sad’ that the item was no longer a symbol of marriage – adding that it ‘didn’t feel right to sell it.’

The mom-of-two held back tears as she watched a jewelry specialist turn the sparkly rock into a necklace and a bracelet.

She explained: ‘I haven’t worn it for almost two years now, and it just doesn’t feel right to sell it. But what I am wanting to do is change my wedding band into something for my kids. Pass it down, you know, to my kids, because they have been my biggest gift.’

Tia tried to stop herself from breaking down as she explained that she hadn’t even seen the ring in two years because it had been sitting in her drawer.

‘I haven’t worn it. It’s just been sitting… It was very pretty,’ she added.

The mom-of-two noted that she was ‘sad’ the diamond no longer represented a ‘symbol of marriage’ before defending her decision to transform it into other jewelry pieces.

She explained: ‘It’s been two years and what I want to do is to take my wedding ring and turn it into some nice pieces, jewelry pieces, for my two kids.’

During a confessional, Tia admitted that she had been thinking of her ex while at the jewelry shop – adding that she knew she had to do what was best for her.

‘It’s hard for me to not think about Cory when I am deciding to repurpose my wedding band because he is the one who gave me my wedding ring.

‘I was so surprised. So it’s very hard for me not to think about what he would think.

‘But I am learning that, at the end of the day, I need to make this decision for me. And I think because it’s going to the kids, he’ll be okay,’ she said.

While at the diamond shop, she decided to make a necklace for Cree and a bracelet for Cairo.

She added: ‘I just think it’s so beautiful to transform something that was given out of love and to give it to your children. It just makes me feel like my marriage wasn’t a waste. I did the right thing.’

Tia and Cory finalized their divorce in 2023 after announcing that they were separating in 2022 following 14 years over marriage.

At the time, Tia revealed: ‘I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways.

‘These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children.’

In the first episode of the show, Tia revealed that she was struggling with the dating scene and branded it ‘intimidating’ because Cory was her ‘first everything.’

She admitted: ‘I wasn’t even allowed to date until I was 18 years old,’ she said. ‘I met Cory when I turned 20 and I lost my virginity at 25. There, I said it! And then we got married! Boom!’

The mom also revealed that she wasn’t shying away from letting her kids know when she was upset about her and Cory’s divorce.

‘The thing is as a mother, you kind of try to figure out if you should allow them to see your emotions, your ups and your downs,’ she added.

The show follows the mom-of-two as she embarks on the next phase of her life, following her divorce from the father of her children.
