Three people have been arrested over the disappearance of a man who was last seen 20 years ago.

Robert Scott Clive was last seen shortly after 11 pm on October 10, 2002, in the Coronation Street area of North Shield, North Tyneside.

Northumbria Police said 30-year-old Mr Clive, who was originally from Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, was reported missing by concerned family members.

Following initial inquiries, a murder investigation was launched and his body has never been found.

However, after new information, police have now arrested two men in their 40s and 50s and a woman in her 40s on suspicion of murder.

Since his disappearance, officers have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and spoke to various witnesses as they looked to piece together some of Scott’s movements on the night he went missing.

Police are still searching a property in the Coronation Street where Mr Clive visited on the night he went missing.

Officers have also been carrying out door-to-door inquiries on the street.

In June of 2024, officers from Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT) arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the disappearance. He has since been released on police bail with enquiries ongoing.

His mother, Patricia Clive who spoke to the Mail last year, said: ‘I have four grandsons and the eldest has just turned 30 – the age Scott was when he went missing.

‘We can’t help but make comparisons, he is living his life to the full and has everything we wished for Scott.

‘We can’t bear this torment any longer – almost 22 years of us missing him and not knowing what happened, we need to lay it and Scott to rest.

The grandmother added that anyone with information should come forward so the family can ‘mourn’ Mr Clive’s loss.

Det Insp Mark Atherton said: ‘We are doing everything we can to provide Scott’s family with the answers they deserve.

‘We still believe there could be key information that people know in the local community.’

‘I am again urging anybody who lived on Coronation Street at the time of his disappearance or has information about Scott’s movements that night, to come forward.

‘The information you have could prove key in our investigations.’
