alert-–-they’ve-still-got-it!-as-the-beatles-chart-worldwide-with-new-song-now-and-then,-here’s-a-look-behind-the-scenes-at-the-making-of-the-songAlert – They’ve still got it! As the Beatles chart worldwide with new song Now and Then, here’s a look behind the scenes at the making of the song

Decades after they officially called it a day, The Beatles’ have a worldwide hit single with Now and Then, their last ever song.

Currently 6th on the ARIA charts, the beautiful ballad was written by the late John Lennon, who penned it years after The Beatles split in 1970.

And fans can get the whole story behind the making of the song with the new documentary ‘Now and Then The Beatles’, which is currently streaming on Disney+.

The 12-minute film from director Oliver Murray includes exclusive must-see throwback footage of the Beatles in their 60s heyday.

Featured in the film are original Beatles members Paul McCartney, 81, Ringo Starr, 83.

Also featured are their former band mates John Lennon, who was murdered in 1980, age 40 and George Harrison, who died in 2001, age 58, of cancer.

Several scenes feature touching home movies of Lennon enjoying his family life with his son, Sean Ono Lennon and wife, Yoko Ono.

There’s also footage of McCartney, Starr and Harrison attempting to record Lennon’s song in 1995.

Elsewhere, the film describes how Lennon first recorded the song at home in New York, which he sung while accompanying himself on piano.

This ‘demo recording’ was eventually passed onto the surviving Beatles.

But Harrison, McCartney and Starr were not able to complete the song using Lennon’s vocal.

After Harrison died in 2001, Starr and McCartney re-entered the studio in 2022 to complete the song.

With the help of new software developed by New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), Lennon’s original vocal was ‘separated’ from his demo.

This track, where only Lennon’s voice can be heard singing the melody without the piano, meant that Now and Then could finally be completed.

The other Beatles contribute their original parts, with McCartney on bass, Harrison on guitar and Starr on drums.

Now and Then is The Beatles first chart-topper in 54 years, with the last being The Ballad Of John And Yoko in 1969.

Other previous number one songs are classics such as Hey Jude, All You Need Is Love, Yellow Submarine, Help! and Love Me Do – which was their first number one hit.

The band split in April 1970, but because of legal issues, the break was not made official until 1974.
